Did you know that in 1995 Washington state enacted a law that banned affirmative action in any state funded contracts? The result has been decades of underrepresentation and lack of diversity in contracting statewide. I had no idea - but I learned so today and City of Seattle’s Regional Contracting Forum. The event has been a huge learning opportunity for me — meeting organizations doing essential equity work, connecting with folks I admire at organizations like the GSBA, and collecting info on the dozens of potential certifications we could be exploring in order to stand out for these kind of contracts. My big takeaway? These events are awesome but behind these scenes there is a huge need for better technology, more community outreach, simplified RFPs, and streamlined certifications so more small businesses know about and have the ability to access these big and business changing contracts. Curious to know from my fellow founders, what business certifications do you have and how have they been beneficial to your company? ASSOCIATION BOARD MEMBER EDUCATION & TRAINING This made the Community Associations Institute's 2024 Policy Priority List. The narrative includes: Community association board members are faced with increasing responsibility to navigate compliance with local, state, and federal laws and greater complexities within communities; especially with the aging infrastructure and with a greater number of people living in community associations. As these volunteer roles become more complex, legislators are looking for solutions to ensure volunteers have the property training and education to fulfill their responsibilities. As such, more states are considering mandatory education requirements for board members. CAI currently opposes mandatory board member education and supports board member education as a best practice. This policy and these issues will likely evolve this year and into the coming years. Fractional C.F.O | Best-Selling Author | Chief Financial Choreographer empowering entrepreneurs, ready to dance with their numbers 💃🏾, grow profitably 💰, scale confidently 📈 and exit successfully.
Love this post Madeline Reeves! I was just remarking to someone that I questioned the relevance of my MWBE certification or even WBENC for a business like mine. The RFPs for fractional CFO opportunities are few and far between. Now, if the agencies thought broader, services like ours would be beneficial to the SMBs the governments agencies seek to serve. We can help SMBs with capital readiness and financial readiness to work with government entities rather than just teach a class. Aside from this, the biggest complaint from our clients working with government or corporate contracts is not getting paid in a timely fashion or having to put out $ before gettin paid. This leaves many SMBs in the cashflow lurch and defeats the purpose and mission of these certifications. There should be some RULING that makes governments and corporations, pay SMB contractors a 50% deposit OR pay within a max of 60 days. Cash is KING! Credit is QUEEN! What say you all? Should that be a ruling? Like, Comment, Repost! ✊

Strategic and creative executive director enabling boards and leaders to achieve their very best for people in the communities we serve. Experienced executive utilising skills to enable others to thrive
This is so important - the approach here is human centred not department / organisational focused - they are doing incredible things by meeting people’s needs - the things that matter to people , not always the same as that which gets measured! Finally it’s more cost effective and means practitioners take accountability for their actions - rather than assessing and referring on …. What’s not to love; adopt and celebrate !!!! #liberatedmethod
How do we break down public service siloes and flip the focus to providing the support people actually need? On this webinar, we reflected on the hugely successful “Liberated Public Services” conference held in Gateshead in March. Mark Smith, Director of Public Service Reform at Gateshead Council and Hannah Hesselgreaves, Professor of Organisational Learning at Northumbria University, joined Andrew Laird to highlight the need for initiatives like the ‘Liberated Method’ to be woven into the fabric of support for vulnerable people. By breaking down service siloes, fostering a culture of curiosity and empowerment at all levels, organisations can create lasting impact. Interested in learning more about the ‘Liberated Method’? Catch up on the entire webinar ‘Reflections on the Liberating Public Services Conference’ below to hear more from those in the driving seat of this pioneering movement ⬇. https://lnkd.in/e2P38EUd #PrioritisingPublicServices

CLD in Scotland Conference 17 April 2024 I have had time to reflect on the CLD in Scotland Conference which was a great success. The key points for me from the conference, in no particular order are: - The role of the CLD family in unlocking the potential for individuals and communities - The importance of professional qualifications/qualified practitioners to support learners, communities and volunteers - Learning is an integral part of Community Development - That collaboration and cohesion across the CLD family is essential to maximise the impact of the Sector for learners and communities - CLD leaders require to articulate the Sector is contributing, and will contribute in the future, to creating the Scotland we want. - The SCQF provides a nationally recognised means of linking CLD to other actors in the Lifelong Learning system to the benefit of individuals and communities - The importance of evidence to demonstrate the positive impact of CLD activities is vital and requires to be developed systemically - Social justice is central to all CLD practice - We need to define but not confine the role of the CLD family. - There requires to be greater recognition of the key role played by the CLD Sector in addressing socio-economic inequality These are my views and not those the CLDSC or CLDMS and sure all colleagues who attended on the day left with their own key points. The sign of a successful conference I think!

Register today for the 3rd Talk To Me Series Discussion: What's the main Idea?! on April 22, 2024 from 11:00 AM-12:30 PM. Registration Link: https://lnkd.in/gg-SC59t The MEDC will be hosting four Michigan Main Street communities to talk about their process of becoming involved and the current outcomes. What are the main challenges facing downtown areas today? How can these challenges be addressed to ensure the continued vitality of downtowns? How are communities using the MMS Four Points to further cultivate real estate and small business entrepreneurs to impact revitalization in their communities? Collaboration among local, state, and regional partners presents an exciting opportunity to encourage and invigorate downtown communities. By fostering alliances between various governmental bodies, businesses, community organizations, and residents, a powerful cooperation emerges—a collective effort to ensure the strength and vitality of downtown areas. #MichiganEconomicDevelopmentCorporation #MEDC #MiPlace
