We meet people where they're at ❤️ That’s why we work to provide basic needs of food, shelter, health, and safety. When individuals are unable to meet their immediate needs, it becomes more difficult to focus on long-term goals such as employment, housing, or education. #basicneeds #community #judgmentfreezone

ICYMI, #Torontonian LIF, #Torontonians especially, please sign, share, & if you can, please $upport* Cathy Crowe's “Petition update: ‘Open Warming Centres 24/7’! 'Ombudsman Toronto closes file on my complaint about transit buses used for shelter' Mar 18, 2024 It is with deep concern that I report that, without benefit of even an interview with me, Ombudsman Toronto will be closing the file on my recent complaint. After first complaining to the city's Shelter Support and Housing Administration I filed a complaint with the Toronto Ombudsman regarding: 1) that the City of Toronto is not disclosing the numbers of unhoused people sheltered on city transit buses on their nightly shelter data; 2) that the City of Toronto Shelter Standards (ie washrooms, showers, bedding, meals, COVID precautions) do not apply to the buses. I remain alarmed that there is so little outcry to this shelter 'program' that I believe violates a basic human rights to safe shelter. 'Getting support in a timely manner is critical to a petition’s success': 'Your contribution can help ... reach new potential supporters in a matter of hours. Chipping in allows us to promote the petition ...' 'Share this with at least one other person: 'This issue isn’t widely known. The first step towards change is spreading awareness and you can play a critical role by sharing.' -- Cathy Crowe Toronto, Canada https://lnkd.in/gUDX5afp'" #SDoH #housingisahumanright #housingforall #shelter #shelters #warmingcentres #respitecentres #Ombudsman #Toronto #CityHall #dignity #respect #humanity #inclusivity #unhoused #constituentsrights #housingrights #socialjustice #marginalization #systemichomelessness #discrimination #systemicpoverty #bodypolitic #societalvalues #disenfranchisement #ethicsmatter #TOpoli #GTApoli #onpoli #cdnpoli #globalpoli #globalimpact

The Housing First approach prioritizes housing as the foundation for stability. When an individual’s basic needs are met (food, shelter, & safety), they are better able to focus on their well-being. When individuals thrive, communities thrive. Just Safety means addressing the needs of a whole person – not just one issue in isolation. Communities have always known how to create safety for themselves – taking a meal to a grieving neighbor, doing yard work for the elderly woman next door, hosting block parties and carne asadas that bring everyone together. But these efforts are completely overlooked (and underfunded) in our current concept of safety. #JustCommunitiesArizona #JustSafety #SafetyNotPunishment

EMPOWERING DIGNITY: A Heartfelt Outreach at the Leprosarium Oke-Igbala I had the privilege of conducting an outreach program at the Leprosarium in Kwara state, an experience that left an indelible mark on my heart. In a world often preoccupied with the hustle and bustle of everyday life, it's easy to overlook those who need our care and compassion the most. My mission was simple yet profound: to promote personal hygiene and dignity among the residents of the Leprosarium. I distributed dignity bags filled with essential toiletries such as bathing soap, sponges, laundry powder, toothbrushes, and toothpaste. These seemingly small items carry immense significance in restoring a sense of pride and self-worth to individuals often marginalized by society. But it didn't stop there. Recognizing the importance of education in breaking the cycle of poverty, I packed the items in backpacks that doubled as school bags for the children of the lepers. It was heartwarming to witness the joy and gratitude on their faces as they received these simple yet invaluable gifts. In addition to hygiene kits, I provided food and drinks, offering nourishment for both body and soul. It was a humbling experience to be able to make a tangible difference in the lives of these resilient individuals. As I reflect on the outreach at the Leprosarium, I am reminded of the profound impact that acts of kindness can have on the lives of others. Together, let's continue to spread love, compassion, and dignity to those who need it most. #socialworker #communityservice #overcomersfoundation #lifesmosturgentandpersistentquestioniswhatareyoudoingforothers
