Hello June! Summer is here and underway which means its officially Hurricane season. As an independent insurance broker serving Texas, it's crucial to highlight some important insurance facts: Hurricane Preparedness: With hurricane season officially underway, it's essential for homeowners to review their insurance policies and ensure they have adequate coverage in place. Living on the Texas coast means facing the risk of hurricanes and tropical storms, making comprehensive insurance coverage essential. Windstorm Insurance: In coastal areas like Texas, standard homeowners insurance policies often exclude coverage for windstorm damage. Homeowners must obtain a separate windstorm insurance policy to protect their property against wind-related damages caused by hurricanes and tropical storms. Flood Insurance: Many homeowners are surprised to learn that standard homeowners insurance policies typically do not cover flood damage. Given the risk of flooding during hurricanes and heavy rainfall, it's imperative for coastal residents to secure flood insurance through the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) or private insurers to safeguard their homes and belongings. Policy Review and Updates: As hurricane season approaches, now is an opportune time for homeowners to review their insurance policies with an independent insurance broker. Ensure that your coverage limits are sufficient to rebuild or repair your home in the event of a hurricane-related disaster. Additionally, consider any recent home improvements or renovations that may necessitate updates to your policy. As an independent insurance broker, I'm here to assist homeowners in navigating the complexities of insurance coverage, especially in high-risk areas like the Texas coast. By staying informed and proactive, homeowners can protect their homes and finances against the potential impact of hurricanes and other natural disasters. @themazochagency | 713.966.6634 | [email protected] #themazochagency #insurancebroker #homeinsurance #huricane #HurricaneSeasonPrep #getready

🚨 PSA for all Louisianians and Gulf Coast residents. 🌀 It’s time for a hurricane insurance check. NOW is the time to prepare: 1. Adjust Your Deductible: Decide if you want to decrease your deductible to 2%. Contact your agent ASAP; changes can’t be made once the storm hits. 2. Renter’s Insurance: If you’re a renter, consider renter’s insurance. It’s affordable and protects your personal belongings (home insurance doesn’t cover them). 3. Consider Flood Insurance: If you’re in or near a flood zone, think about flood insurance. Standard homeowners policies don’t cover flood damage from heavy rain or storm surge. Note: There’s usually a 30-day waiting period before flood insurance takes effect. 4. Update Your Home Inventory: Use your phone to document items in your home (photos or videos). Include brand names and serial numbers if possible. The NAIC Home Inventory App simplifies this process. 5. Make an Evacuation Plan: Include friends or family you’ll evacuate with. Decide on a safe location and evacuation route. Keep copies of your policies and your agent and insurance company's contact info handy. 6. Other Considerations: Stock up on water, consider a generator, and have plywood to board your windows.

🌪️ Hurricane Debby: A Manageable Event for Insurers, But a Wake-Up Call for Homeowners Without Flood Insurance Hurricane Debby made landfall near Steinhatchee in Taylor County, FL, as a Category 1 storm, causing significant rainfall and flooding across North Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina. While the insurance industry expects this to be a "manageable event" with estimated insured losses ranging from $1 billion to $2 billion, the real concern lies in the potential uninsured flood damages many homeowners might face. According to Gallagher Re's analysis, wind-related losses were somewhat mitigated due to the storm’s landfall in the sparsely populated Big Bend region. However, the complexity of flood-related losses—both coastal and inland—presents a different challenge. With significant rainfall, as much as 18 inches in some areas, many homeowners who lack flood insurance could be left to bear the financial burden of the damage alone. 💧 The Importance of Flood Insurance Flood insurance is often overlooked by homeowners, especially in inland regions where flood risk is perceived to be lower. Yet, as storms like Debby and the more powerful Hurricane Idalia (which struck in August 2023) demonstrate, the impacts of flooding can extend far beyond coastal areas. The National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) reported over $380 million in payouts from Idalia alone, primarily in the Tampa Bay region. 🏡 A Call to Action for Homeowners and Industry Professionals This serves as a crucial reminder for homeowners to reassess their insurance coverage. Those without flood insurance should seriously consider the potential risks, even if they are not in designated high-risk areas. For industry professionals, this event underscores the importance of educating clients about the full spectrum of risks associated with severe weather events. Let's stay informed and prepared. Disasters like these are becoming more frequent, and proactive measures can make a significant difference in mitigating their impacts. #HurricaneDebby #FloodInsurance #RiskManagement #InsuranceIndustry #Homeowners #ClimateChange #DisasterPreparedness

Navigating Flood Insurance in Wisconsin: What You Need to Know 🌧️🏠 Wisconsin's beautiful landscapes come with their own set of challenges, including the risk of flooding. Whether you're near a river, lake, or even in a seemingly low-risk area, understanding the basics of flood insurance is crucial. Here’s what Wisconsin residents need to know: Not Just for High-Risk Areas 🏞️: Flood insurance isn't just for homes in flood-prone zones. Over 20% of flood claims come from properties outside high-risk areas. Homeowners Insurance Doesn’t Cover Floods 💧: Standard homeowners policies typically don't cover flood damage. Flood insurance is a separate policy that provides protection against losses from water damage specifically due to flooding. Assess Your Risk 📊: Use resources like FEMA's Flood Map Service Center to understand your property's flood risk. This can help you decide the level of coverage you need. Wisconsin's National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) Participation 📜: Wisconsin participates in the NFIP, allowing residents to purchase flood insurance policies backed by the federal government. Some private insurers also offer flood insurance. There's a Waiting Period ⏳: Most flood insurance policies have a 30-day waiting period from the date of purchase before your coverage goes into effect. Don’t wait for a forecasted event to buy a policy. Floods can happen anywhere and at any time. Protecting your home with flood insurance ensures you're prepared for the unexpected, providing peace of mind and financial security. Connect With Us Today 🌟 Call Mitchell P. Hurricane season isn’t over, and you may be wondering if your #homeinsurance covers #hurricanes. It depends on your policy type, carrier and state regulations. According to Bankrate, here's how standard home insurance typically handles hurricane related damage: -Falling Objects: Covers damage from falling trees or objects, though hurricane-related damage may fall under wind damage. -Flooding: Not covered under standard policies. Consider a separate flood policy from NFIP or a private provider if you're in a flood-prone area. -Wind: Coverage varies by location. Some states offer specific windstorm insurance options or FAIR plans if your provider doesn't cover hurricane-related wind damage. Speaking with an advisor on what you are or aren’t covered for is usually the best course of action – Frost insurance advisors are here to clarify what's protected and how to ensure you and your family are covered. Reach out and I’d be happy to connect you.
