Next time you read some "expert" predicting something HUGE about AI - you know its a 🤡 ChatGPT is a miracle for many as it feels like it is intelligent. But it is dumb and just gives you "average content" based on the "most probable answer". It is not intelligent or whatever. And no, AI is not new and nothing really groundbreaking in most cases. 1) We have AI everywhere - Google Search for years, your Smartphone has dozens of AI models, your camera, all apps etc. etc. 2) Speaking of ChatGPT like AI as "AI" is like saying that every round piece of rubber is a car - so don't trust these wannabe 🤡 who want to sell you out or just want to feel important 3) Most AI applications are limited and that has been true for years and will be true for the next years. Most companies don't have the data nor the quality of data to actually make meaningful use of advanced algorithms. So break through the noise and don't trust every "AI expert" who is predicting that EVERYTHING will change. My job as futurist is to see long term consequences and yes, I like to envision a smart future but we are far off when it comes to really smart AI or even AGI (so human level intelligence) so you don't have to fear much at the moment and for the next decades. Current models are only good at mimicing intelligence, not producing intelligence. AI is great, it will help in many little ways, it will be changing our interactions with computers as they become more "responsive and understanding" but it is just one single tool in a huge toolset of technologies. The same is with every technology and trust me in one thing: THERE ARE NO RADICAL INNOVATIONS anymore. Digital technologies are iterative innovation and it will not change, no matter how big the hype is, because it is almost impossible to build groundbreaking things before we do the first steps. Also ChatGPT didn't come out of thin air, it was years and years and many many models before it became the hype with 3.5 and a chat interface. Still it was nothing new for people who work in tech, only the public suddenly felt like they experience something new and all these wannabe-experts wanted to be part of that hype - so think twice who you trust with his "predictions". #mywordforsunday #futurist #ai #realism

Nice picture and true comments! However, I tend to disagree in regard to the radical innovations. Probably we have a different view on the "radical" threshold... 😉 When I e.g. have a look at our NVD technology, which turns information protection around (protection by default, no unprotected information nor meta-information anymore) and provides novel cryptographic access controls, which ensure to remain in control even of shared data. NVD can be categorized as a radical or paradigm change, or it can be seen in "just" a novel way of applying cryptography... So, in AI the radical change for me will be the upcoming assistants, new speech-controlled "intelligent" interfaces. Therefore, we are working on how to "feed" those assistants even with personal, sensitive, private data in a controlled way (without losing control of our data) ... Which will be another radical change... At least for me 😉

There is one thing to add: Natural language interfaces arrived on the market in the 80s with a product called Q&A (Question and Answer).

I will steal this picture - it is a great tool to remind people that Gen AI is not all there is!
