On the heels of the Walmart acquisition of VIZIO, Roku has partnered with The Trade Desk, allowing TTD’s customers with access to Roku's data to enhance campaign optimization for streaming viewers via ACR data. This is in line with Roku’s partnerships strategy and creating more demand and collaboration within their walled garden to drive yield with enhanced audience precision, but this behind the velvet rope of PMP deals. This has been on the cards for a while now. Will be quite a game changer to the overall programmatic media buying practice. It’s only matter of time larger automation dashboards will kick in on cross-media ad spends planning and buying functions (multiple biddable models). Higher efficiency, control and speed for advertisers; faster sales for media owners, real time inventory uptake giving media owners the room to distribute ad spaces basis dynamic demad. Win-win. Also, Drax is quite a cool acronym branding and design, made easy to recognize by the iconic ‘D’. That in itself is a good example of effective branding of a B2B platform.

Walmart acquiring VIZIO for $2.3B is a brilliant move on their part. Here's why: The advertising opportunities in CTV are still relatively new and evolving day by day, with so much opportunity ahead. Walmart will now access data across all Vizio owners' watching and viewing habits to help provide more insights across the rest of Walmart's business through these Vizio-owned households. Look at leaders like LG Ad Solutions and what they have achieved in such a short amount of time since acquiring Alfonso in 2021; it's truly a game changer for brands and understanding audience behavior and viewership trends across CTV, native, and extended. Here are some astounding numbers: 40M LG Smart TVs in the US alone and 165M LG smart TVs globally - access to insights at this scale in this space has been unprecedented. As the world moves to smart screens, the ACR data available from TV manufacturers will make them indispensable data providers in the future of sports and entertainment. For those unfamiliar, ACR data is automatic content recognition - think of this like Shazam for Music, where the technology could detect what you were listening to, but now smart screens have ACR data embedded into their displays to detect what is being watched across your glass automatically. Similar to how social media platforms can gain insights into their audience from how they engage in content. This technology has really opened up the ability for third-party data and analytic platforms ( Like Zoomph 👋 )to access broadcast and streaming viewership numbers with unbelievable turnaround times. This space is typically somewhere not all of #sportsbiz is entirely up to speed on, so I'll keep posting on the topic to help bring more transparency and education to the topic.

Retail platforms, video services and tech vendors are collaborating to build a “retail video” ecosystem delivering off-site retail media, retail attribution, shoppable TV ads and TV platforms as retail media. Early mover deals/partnerships include Walmart’s Vizio acquisition, NBCU - Instacart, Paramount - Shopsense, and Roku - Shopify.  We’ve produced an infographic, based on insights from our recent advisory work, illustrating emerging opportunities - top level, initial estimates, to be refined, comments welcome.
