Promoting the importance of voting as a civic duty from an early age can foster a culture of participation and responsibility. This generation’s familiarity with digital tools allows them to hold politicians accountable like never before. Social media, for instance, is a powerful platform for advocacy, transparency, and ensuring that elected officials fulfil their promises. With their tech-savvy nature, young people are in a unique position to bridge the generational divide. They use their knowledge to educate and inform older generations who may not be as familiar with new technologies or global perspectives. This role as knowledge-sharers helps create a more cohesive and informed society, where decisions are made with a fuller understanding of their consequences and accountability. "Developed from the insights and experiences of business leaders and democracy experts, this report is designed to meet businesses where they are. It provides a strategic framework to help employers customize their efforts around three goals: encouraging and enabling civic participation; promoting information accessibility, transparency, and quality; and supporting issues that protect fundamental rights and protect democracy." 🙌
Thrilled to have Center for Tech and Civic Life named among some great other groups as a vetted partner that promotes election information accessibility, transparency, and quality in NationSwell ‘s latest report. This report helps employers understand how to promote a healthy democracy in a tense time in our country - and is a great complement to the work of some of my former colleagues at Civic Responsibility Project and Civic Alliance. Businesses play a critical role in preserving our democracy, and a fair playing field where all voices can be peacefully heard is truly good for business.

Move over sticky dot vote, its time for consensus decision-making! I'm designing a session for community groups working with the Rainbow community to divvy up some funding they've received. The brief is that this is about empowering the groups to make their own decisions. So I'm suggesting the consensus decision-making process. Simply put, its a tool that enables groups to decide together using the process in the diagram below. Consensus is about sharing power - everyone who has 'skin in the game' work together to find solutions that meet everyone's needs. I'm really excited about this as its an interesting process, with a fair bit of planning and creative exploration. Setting the scene, agreeing the shared goal, and building connections will be critical in the set up! Of course, majority votes have their place too 😉 Anyone had experiences with consensus decision making? What's the good, bad and ugly on this? #consensusdecisionmaking #facilitation #codesign #wovencollaboration

In March, we commemorate Human Rights Month. To mark this historical time, we ask everyone that calls this city home to reflect on what it means to be Capetonian. What are the values we hold important, what is our shared identity and why is it important to build a socially cohesive city? Our hard-won democracy will only thrive when we combat discrimination and intolerance. Let’s commit, this Human Rights month, to building a city that values the human rights of all who live here. #CTInfo #HumanRightsMonth #StandUp4HumanRights
