Reconductoring projects are one way to upgrade grid performance, update aging assets, and increase system capacity to accommodate new demand. Unfortunately, it’s also complicated because: • Many customers (like hospitals and industrial facilities) can’t tolerate outages. • Not all sections have alternate feed options, making it impossible to de-energize lines without causing an outage. • Working on energized lines is incredibly complex and potentially hazardous. Reconductoring projects need strategic scheduling and tracking to ensure safe execution. Automated notification tools can help keep customers in the know about potential interruptions, and full-stack mapping and management tools help utilities identify live areas and bypass systems to minimize the impact of outages. Power System Planning Objectives Power system planning is an approach used to plan the expansion of the power system and their associated resources to meet anticipated demand growth with high reliability and to minimize the total cost of system expansion. Some of the main objectives considered while power system planning are : 1-Steady State: the steady state criterion sets the adequacy of the network to supply the energy requirements of users within the component ratings of frequency and voltage limits. 2-Contingency: the contingency criterion establishes the minimum capability of the network to be reconfigured after a fault so that unfaulted portion of the network is restored. 3-Stability: The stability criterion defines the necessary probability of the network remaining in stable equilibrium operating condition following all credible network disturbances. 4-Quality of Supply: the quality of supply criterion related to the voltage and current waveforms in the network and criteria are established for the following aspects : ● voltage fluctuations ● system frequency ● harmonic distortion ● voltage unbalance ● network reliability
