Systematics’ Employees Club surprised us yesterday with a visit from Halfdan the Jazzman, playing lovely jazz tunes in the canteen 🎹🎷 The week ahead will be steeped in the spirit of jazz, with the timeless sophistication from the roaring 1920s to the shadowy 40s, setting the stage for Systematics’ late summer party. We invite all Aarhus-based colleagues to enrobe in their finest suits and luxurious pearls for an evening of glamour, elegance, and intrigue. We look forward to more surprises at the upcoming late summer party-noir! 🎷 #neverstopdeveloping

The public realm is the fundamental urban context where design meets policy…and I’m looking forward to this discussion with the brilliant Tracy Hadden Loh and Madeleine Spencer on Friday morning to explore how we can center the well-being of people in that equation!
Join CNU President Mallory Baches and our friends at Project for Public Spaces for their 4th International Placemaking Week. Mallory will be part of the closing plenary on 6/7 to reflect on the state of the placemaking movement today. The conversation brings together an interdisciplinary group of national leaders to explore the big challenges facing our communities today and what it will take for placemaking to rise to the moment.

I remember something that Christian Gunn, Tom Love and I discussed very early on when I joined LoveGunn. How do we balance a great work culture with a great work ethic? People talk a lot about 'culture' in the workplace, and how we are 'one big family' (plus all the memes - 'come back to the office for the ✨CULTURE✨ empty desks, busy tubes etc) and we all have our own experiences of good, average and bad. During my career, I'm proud to have created some great cultures in my teams, some average, and no doubt have gotten it wrong on occasions. Culture to me, is just like branding. It's not as easy as a quick hit here and there - free pizza on a Friday, or high fives for a job well done. Much like with branding - a new logo isn't the sole driver of a great brand. Culture, as with branding, is everything you say, you do and how you act. All of the time. Culture takes time to build, develop, pivot, grow and maintain. Culture is how people feel and how they would describe their job when their boss isn't in the room. Exactly how people would describe a company to their friends. Being part of LoveGunns culture really is a pleasure. The team clearly enjoy working here, and have relationships that will stand the test of time. Our right from the heart, straight to the point approach is prevalent across our work and our culture. We have areas we can improve on, of course we do, but I hope the video below gives just a small insight into our culture, and some of the outstanding work that the creative team are producing. A massive hats off to Chris, Tom and the whole team for creating the culture that I have the privilege of being a part of. Work ethic sits hand in hand with culture. People want to do a great job because they care. They want to go above and beyond. They care because they are cared about. The results are showcased in fantastic work at every turn. I'm by no means an expert, and these are just my observations. I've managed people, teams and clients for 20 years, and have another 20 odd years to go (ouch). So, at the halfway point...I'm pretty f*cking happy. Now, to answer the question - how do we balance culture with a great work ethic? I'll let the video do the talking....

【Headline Story of DMatters Feb Issue: Illuminates the Beauty of our City, Bridges East-West Cultures with Love-infused Design】 In today's fast-paced world, people actively yearn for moments of respite, seeking chances to break free from the hustle of life. In this pursuit for tranquility, design has risen as a powerful medium, illuminating the inherent beauty of our cities and providing solace to weary minds. From February 14th to 24th, we curated and presented Chubby Hearts Hong Kong, featuring 30 showcases across 20 locations throughout Hong Kong. The project conveys a message of love and cultural fusion through its giant heart-shaped installations, providing us with an opportunity to reflect upon the significance of love and inclusivity. Through design and art, we can bridge the gaps imposed by language and culture, forging connections between people's hearts and minds. It serves as a reminder that love should not be confined to familial, friendly, or romantic relationships alone, but rather, it should be embraced as a universal value that unifies society as a whole. Let us delve into the depths of the project, uncovering its underlying meanings and sources of inspiration. Through this exploration, we can carry forward the charm of love and culture, nurturing a society that is better, more inclusive, and diverse.
