🏊♂️ ⏱ 𝗥𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰𝘀 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗅 In Olympic swimming competitions, I've seen different metrics displayed during the race: current speed, or gap to the leader. While actual speed might sound precise, it doesn't give me a clear picture of the exact position of swimmers and how the race is going. However, showing the distance in meters not only highlights the gap to the leader but also lets me see the trend over time - whether the gap is increasing or decreasing. This reminds me of the importance of selecting the right metrics that provide a clear picture of the situation, whether in sports, business, or any other field. #Swimming #Olympics #Metrics #Performance #DataVisualization #SportsAnalytics

Catapult River Jumping is yet to be an Olympic event. But here are some Little-Known Olympic Events The Olympics have a rich history filled with unusual and forgotten sports. Here are a few: Discontinued Events Live Pigeon Shooting: This gruesome event involved shooting live pigeons. Thankfully, it was only held once in 1900. Running Deer Shooting: Competitors shot at moving targets that resembled deer. Tug-of-War: While it might seem simple, it was an Olympic sport for several decades. Lesser-Known Modern Events Canoe Sprint: While canoeing is known, the intricacies of sprint events often go unnoticed. Badminton: Despite its popularity, it was only added to the Olympic program 1992. Modern Pentathlon: This event combines shooting, fencing, swimming, equestrian show jumping, and running. Ancient and Obscure Pankration: A brutal combination of boxing and wrestling with few rules. Hot Air Ballooning: Yes, it was once an Olympic sport. #olympics

The Olympic medal count system can be seen as #insane and #unfair due to several reasons. Firstly, it doesn't account for the varying levels of difficulty and competitiveness across different sports. For instance, #swimming and #gymnastics have numerous events, offering more medal opportunities, while sports like #rugby and #baseball have very few. This disparity can unfairly skew the medal tally in favor of countries excelling in sports with multiple events. Additionally, sports like #athletics and #football, with higher global participation, often see stiffer competition, making medals harder to come by compared to niche sports like #equestrian. The system also fails to recognize the individual brilliance required in sports with fewer events, like marathon running. Furthermore, team sports like basketball contribute only a single medal despite the collective effort involved. The medal count also overlooks the different investment levels and resources available to athletes from various countries. This system can therefore misrepresent a country's overall athletic capability and investment in sports development. #Olympics #MedalCount #FairPlay #AthleteDiversity #SportsEquality #CompetitionLevels #GlobalParticipation #TeamSports #AthleticInvestment #OlympicChallenges
