The Paris 2024 Olympics have wrapped up recently and Japan had a successful showing at the Games, finishing third as the country with the most medals won behind the United States and China, the same top three nations from the Tokyo 2020 Games. Japan started strong early on, maintaining its dominance in skateboarding and gymnastics, and even won gold in the newly introduced but short-lived breakdancing competition. Additionally, Japan won three gold medals and took home more wins in other competitions such as javelin throwing, fencing, and finishing strong with the wrestling competition. Before the Olympics began, the Japanese Olympic Committee set a goal of winning 20 medals, and they achieved that just hours before the closing ceremony of the wrestling competition! Kotaro Kiyooka won the men’s 65-kg freestyle wrestling title and Yuka Kagami won the final gold medal in the women’s freestyle 76-kg wrestling division, making it the first gold medal for Japan in the heaviest class division, and the 20th gold medal for Japan in Paris, reaching the Committee's goal. This marks a new national gold medal record for Japan winning at an overseas Olympics. The previous record was 16 gold medals at the Athens Games in 2004. Overall, Japanese athletes earned 12 silver medals, 13 bronze medals, and 20 gold medals, for an overall total of 45 medals, the highest they’ve ever achieved at an Olympics outside of Japan, previously held by the Rio Games in 2016 with 41 total medals. Read more about all the gold medalists for Japan at the Paris 2024 Games here: https://bit.ly/4csQRZ5 The 2028 Olympics will be held here in Los Angeles, where baseball and softball are expected to make a return to the Games. Japan is the reigning gold medalist in both events as their affinity for the sport runs deep in Japanese history. We can't wait to see all the future sports events in LA! Anyone switching onto the European Athletics Championships on Tuesday night and catching sight of Gianmarco Tamberi for the first time in the men’s high jump final may be forgiven for wondering whether he’d suffered an unfortunate malfunction with a razor, sporting as he was a clean-shaven right cheek and chin and a bearded left side. But this was no faux pas, it was the Italian’s famous half-beard. Yes, you read that correctly, a half-beard. And it’s not just any half-beard, but a lucky half-beard, as it proved once again on the night. Indeed, the reigning Olympic and world champion was looking on the ropes on an evening when it seemed that the triple jump was to take the starring role, with first Portugal’s Pichardo jumping a noteworthy 18.04 metres to claim a national record, before Spain’s Diaz Fortun leapt into history with his own national record, a championship record to boot, and significantly the third longest jump ever, at 18.18, only 11 centimetres, roughly the size of a playing card, off Jonathan Edwards’ 1995 world record of 18.29 metres. But as his gold shoes and personalised socks which feature his trademark half-beard attest, Tamberi is a showman. After two failures at 2.29, with Ukraine’s Vlayslav Lavskyy having gone clear at the first attempt, Tamberi dug out a clearance on his third and final effort. A first-time jump at 2.31 put the Italian in the driving seat as Lavskyy crashed out at 2.33. With two failures at 2.33 himself, Tamberi looked as if his lucky beard had reached its limits, but never one to go out with a whimper, he raised the bar a centimetre and duly sailed over the new height. Job done, so it would seem for most athletes, but not Tamberi. On home turf, he called for the bar to be raised once more to 2.37 and following his own script, as he so often does, recorded a first-time clearance that saw him write his name into the history books with a championship record. It seems there’s something to the lucky half-beard after all. But while it works for Tamberi, it’s probably not the best lucky charm for a job interview, court hearing or wedding day. Another Olympic is almost gone and India is still struggling to get even 10 medals. Before the Olympics started I was sure that India would surpass Tokyo's tally and for the first time in history, we would get double-digit medals in the range of 10-15. Below is the breakup of sports vice medals which I had written in my notes: Badminton - 2 Archery - 2 Boxing - 1 Hockey - 1 Shooting - 3 Table tennis - 1 Wrestling - 2 Athletics - 2 Weightlifting - 1 But now that the Olympics is in its last leg, it's hard to see that we might not even match Tokyo's medal tally of 7 medals. We have shown good progress but sadly the progress didn't convert into medals. In 3 shooting final events, we came 4th and missed medals. In the Archery mixed team, we came 4th and Lashya Sen also ended his journey in 4th position. Two of our boxers lost in the quarterfinal, and Deepika in Archey lost in the quarterfinal. Our wrestler Nisha, who was about to win got injured and lost in the last few seconds in the quarterfinal. Both Men and Women's archery teams lost in the quarterfinals. It's disheartening to see such good performances not getting us medals. Intially I thought it was just a matter of luck but now I feel we lack a champion mentality. We have surely produced some good players but our players are not ready to soak the pressure. All around the year, our players perform well in the world championship but the same player doesn't perform well in the Olympics when all eyes are on them. We need to build a sporting culture, nurture talent and also focus on mental conditioning. We can learn from countries like China, Japan or even Korea. They know they can't compete in Athletics with Western countries so they have picked up other sports like shooting, table tennis, badminton, archery, gymnastics etc and just with 4-5 sports they take the most medals. Currently, India has only 3 bronze medals which we got in shooting with which we are ranked 60 in Olympic 2024. If India does well in Hockey, if Neeraj gets another medal, if Mirabai does her magic again and if we get 1-2 medals in wrestling we still have a chance to match Tokyo's tally. Fingers crossed. Hope we learn and come back even stronger in 2028. Fun fact: The 2028 Olympics will have cricket too.

Coaching is not only about being “Mr Motivator”, insightful, inspiring & knowledgeable, but it’s also about being accountable and responsible for the Objective data of your Athletes 📈 Building an Athlete’s belief and motivation comes from what we can see in the non-bias Objective results ⭐️ This far outweighs the Subjective … the voices that scream: “I’m tired”, “I can’t”, “I won’t ever be able to do that”. They lied to you. it’s NOT about finding just the sweet spot of the racket. It’s about the sweet ball of the racket AND the BALL. AND Federer's soccer ball drill reveals it's about both of them while being ROUNDED. If you're like me, you idolize Fed’s strokes. But it was that one drill where he’s bumping a soccer ball with another soccer ball that really got me thinking. I used to struggle with meeting the ball just right, obsessing over the perfect grip and swing. → I had no clue that the secret lay not in flat, rigid motions, but in the beautiful dance of round meeting round. → I poured hours into traditional drills, only to find my groundies without that Fed magic. I wish someone had told me sooner that the problem wasn’t in my effort but in my approach. I'd been skipping the crucial concept of a rounded object meeting another rounded object, just like the tip of a whip, to create that perfect contact. To all the tennis players out there who think deeper than the rest and are trying to crack the code of flawless play, it took me longer than I care to admit to embrace this rounded philosophy. But it was game-changing. Too often, we’re stuck in the mindset that power and precision require force and rigidity. When really, all it takes is understanding how to extend your arm fully, with just the right wrist pressure, to meet the ball with grace and efficiency. It doesn’t require endless drills or physical strain, but a shift in perspective towards embracing the natural arcs of motion. And when I tell you integrating this concept can elevate your game, I mean it. Making contact with the ball that feels as natural and powerful as Federer's when you start getting the concepts of the Non-Linear System. And that’s exactly why I created "Excalibur". It will teach you the finesse of connecting with the tennis ball with pinpoint precision at the 45 from the contact inward, inspired by Fed's soccer ball bumping drill. Comment "EXCALIBUR" to join our waitlist for when we release this bad boy! 🫡 #beyondtennis #tennis #tennisfundamentals #tennistips #tenniscoach #tennistraining #tennistechnique #tennislesson #tennispro #tennisplayer #protennis #learntennis #playtennis
