🎙️At Large - Ep. 2: John Fiorentino - "The Hunt for Big Ideas"🎙️ Listen: https://lnkd.in/gbyMdvMU For John Fiorentino, finding creative ideas is like hunting big game. It’s unpredictable, requires innate skill, and is an all-consuming quest defined by feast and famine. John’s hunt for ideas led him to create a product inspired by nights sleeping on the New York City subway which invented a category: the Gravity Blanket. Since launching this product, John has founded a collection of other product-driven businesses which have generated hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue since inception without relying on outside investment. With an evident contrarian streak, John embraces his “truth-telling phase” in this interview and holds forth on how good ideas are undervalued, how organized religion has become counterculture, whether G-Wagons are tacky, and the hidden trap of fame.

🥕 What do Bugs Bunny, Clark Gabble, and the X-men have in common? Bugs Bunny transformed the word nimrod into a synonym for idiot. At least for some younger viewers. ✝︎ The Bible states that Nimrod was "a mighty hunter before the Lord [and] ... began to be mighty in the earth". He was the leader of those who built the Tower of Babel. Bugs Bunny compared Elmer Fudd (balding hunter, his archenemy) to the Biblical figure Nimrod. 🐰 "Shhh. Be vewy, vewy quiet, I'm hunting wabbit" As Elmer Fudd would say, missing another shot. Nobody gets that joke now. 😎 Yet, it might only affect younger generations. - The Royal Air Force plane is called the Nimrod. - The anti-submarine ship in the U.S. Navy is the P-3 Orion. These things tend to get named after great hunters. 📖 Marvel also had a different point of view on the Nimrod-dilemma. Older X-Men comic readers might remember him. An ultimate Sentinel from the future called Nimrod. Created to hunt and kill mutants (14 Nov. 1965). As a kid reading those comics, I thought naming him "Nimrod" was a joke. He was a badass mutant hunter. 🐰 Bugs Bunny also solidified the idea of rabbits loving carrots. Carrots carry very little nutritional value for rabbits. They prefer hay or grass, which is essential for their digestive system. 🥕 The original joke referenced a Clark Gable film where Gable munches on a carrot. It was never meant to imply that rabbits love carrots. The Clark Gable reference would've been obvious to audiences in the 40s, but it has been lost to time. 🤔 The moral is this: Etymology is ridiculous and terrifying sometimes. Also, Bugs Bunny has too much power and should be feared… #Etymology #ComicBooks #XMen #MarvelComics #LanguageFun #CulturalReferences #CartoonHistory #Translation #EtymologyNerd

Parasocial relationships are “any kind of psychological relationship experienced by an audience in their mediated encounters with performers in the mass media.” They can be a source of inspiration and motivation; mine's Montaigne, the 17th C. philosopher. Why do trends occur, movements form, groups in society all do the same thing? Herd mentality. Success comes when you stand out, when everyone else is just blending in. But why does it happen? During the break between seasons, we go to Gold School, my fav 'gold' to unlock your great ideas and get your Mojo working. Luke Bugis author of 'Wanting' has studied French Polymath Renee Girard, who coined the term mimetic desire. From the theory of memesis, mimetic desire is how we imitate each other. It's about how someone does something, and then within weeks, it's a thing, everyone is doing it, and it's imitated widely. It's why certain tribes dress the same, speak the same, and have the same desires, good or bad. Well, that's memetic desire. I found it a profound learning and one that can be super helpful to parents. Over 5 years ago I started a collection of digital re-imaginings of the ancient Norse Runes of the Elder Futhark. Now I wanted to go back and explore them extensively. In this article I look at the first Rune FEHU, which speaks of wealth. I talk a little about money and about the meaning of wealth. I also touch on the symbolism behind the Rune, with reference to its mythological tale. And then I talk about THE MIND, as always (: #rune #magick #wealth #howtomakemoney #mythology #norse #vikings #digitalart #design
