The reference to the firm’s performative statements and opposite actions is a very common thing that I hear from disgruntled lawyers and staff (from women, racial minorities, people struggling with their mental health etc.). 50 years ago, an image like this would have been unimaginable. Even 20 years ago, a picture of these remarkable women might have led to assumptions about them being recognized for roles like PTA leaders or administrative staff—positions, while valuable in their own way, often stereotypically assigned to women. But today, this photo tells a different story: it represents #progress. Today as I flipped through this month’s Utah State Bar Journal, I was reminded of how far we’ve come. The barriers women and other underrepresented individuals have faced in the legal profession are being broken, one glass ceiling at a time. Today, I want to shine a light on The Appellate Group, a firm owned and operated by an extraordinary group of women, specializing in appellate law. Celebrate Women's History Month with us as we recognize and share the extraordinary contributions of women! Zelms Erlich Lenkov & Mack is pleased to spotlight the achievements and contributions of our trailblazing women within our firm. In today's Q&A spotlight, we feature Samantha Sawyer! Question - What has been your biggest accomplishment as a lawyer? Answer - I got a unanimous defense verdict in my very first trial. I have also been successful on at least 3 appeals. I have also successfully resolved several issues before respective licensing departments that have afforded my clients the ability to continue their respective practice.  Question - What is a hurdle you have overcome?  Answer - Client control and being a woman dealing with difficult male attorneys. Often times, clients don’t understand the law or the advice that counsel gives them. They have unattainable expectations, and it has been an obstacle to bring them back down to earth, but I have managed it and I have had good resolutions for most of my clients. Also, as a woman, I have successfully dealt with male attorneys that have practiced for a long time and are set in their ways. It has been apparent by the way they treat me and talk to me that they think I am less because I am a woman. This is an issue I still navigate but have done so with grace and without losing sight of my power as a female attorney.   #zelmworld #callawyer #jeffreylenkov #ZELMLife #Womenattorneys #CaliforniaAttorneys #lawlife #dodgers #mlb #celebritylife #cla #Ohtani #ZELMlife #womenshistorymonth
