As A Nation, We Must Act Now! Having worked with over 68000 children across the UK since 2007 and having dedicated my life working with children and young people, I have never been so so worried for the future prospects of our #youth. This is the Elephant in the room to which we appear to be ignoring as nation. Children should be our top priority as a nation, we need to fight back against the negative influences, high levels of parental neglect and passive learning situations that are causing so much apathy and self indulgence in our children and young people. #getoutside #getfit #healthyminds #resilience #charactereducation #character #wellbeing #inclusion #children #sport We have to do more to help, support and guide our young people NOW! This is not a joke, this is what we are hearing from teachers and witnessing within our schools and communities! Teachers are leaving our schools, because the children and the parents do not #respect them! Some parents want to be thier childrens friends rather than facing up to the tough decisions and responsibilities of being a parent. 1/ Now more than ever, children and young people need to understand values and boundaries. 2/ Teachers are calling for more respect and focus in the classroom. 3/ Children are being over exposed to the wrong kind of influencers on-line and within social media channels whom remain unchecked and unchallenged. 4/ Children and young people are collectively more anxious than they have ever been, low confidence and poor self esteem. With a feeling that they cannot live up to the over beautified expectations of thier peers on social media. 5/ Over 45% of children come from broken homes and there are more children than ever being moved in to care. 6/ Children are more vulnerable than ever before to external influences and to exploitation by county lines and the increasing level of local control by gangs. 7/ There is a real lack of mental and physical resilience in children who have not been learning to deal with managing risk, learning to be confident and to step out of thier comfort zone. 8/ levels of obesity at KS2 are a national disgrace, with over 26% of children in year eleven now obese. 9/ There are poor levels of Oral health and hygiene, leading to children have to have more dental and medical interventions (no wonder the NHS is stretched). 10/ Children do not participate in enough physically challenging and demanding sport and #outdoor #activities, it's all in the too difficult box. All of which will lead to premature poor health and Illness in later life.

A new programme aimed at helping young people with experience of care or homelessness to access training and career opportunities within the construction sector has been launched by Lovell Partnerships Ltd. Called ‘We’ve Got You’, the initiative will help young people aged 16 to 25 in Birmingham who are care experienced, currently homeless or at risk of homelessness. The project is supported by the Care Leaver Covenant; St Basils; Birmingham City Council, and Birmingham Children's Trust (England). Simon Wingate, Midlands Regional Partnerships Director at Lovell, said: “We are passionate about creating a difference within the communities in which we work and We’ve Got You represents our commitment to helping young people find their path to training, employment and homes. With increased investment in new housing and green jobs together with our experience in delivering housing schemes and major regeneration projects, we can provide a route to help young people, particularly those who have faced adversity in their lives." Birmingham City Council’s Deputy Leader, Cllr Sharon Thompson, JP , said: “We've Got You is a key programme to empower and support our young people who are leaving care and those experiencing homelessness into employment and stable housing. Without which it is incredibly difficult to unlock their full potential and build a successful future. These resilient individuals, of which I was one, despite facing early adversities possess untapped potential that, with the right support, can flourish and contribute significantly to our communities and society positively." Livesey Exchange works to ensure local spaces, whether that be existing buildings or new builds, are utilised by Southwark residents. LEX1, located around the Ledbury Estate, was home to 11 units, facilitating 20+ creatives at any given time. This multidisciplinary space is also being used for workshops, skills development training and cultural programmes. The construction of LEX2 is currently underway which will serve to support the local community by providing an accessible social, cultural and community space. This will also become Livesey Exchange’s permanent residence once LEX1 is eventually knocked down. Social Value: When speaking with Nicholas, he placed keen importance on ‘social value’ and what it means to the community. According to Social Value UK (2022), the term refers to the quantification of importance that people place on the changes that they experience in their lives. Livesey Exchange provides a middle ground between the Southwark community and local governing bodies where these values can be communicated and subsequently measured. The Reindeer Cyclone: A Lesson in Teamwork for the Corporate Jungle The mesmerizing "reindeer cyclone" isn't just a nature documentary highlight, it's a powerful metaphor for teamwork, unity, and protecting the vulnerable. These reindeer instinctively form a swirling vortex, shielding their weakest within from predators. This innate behavior holds a profound lesson for our professional lives, especially in today's corporate landscape. Let's face it, the office isn't always sunshine and rainbows. Backstabbing, ill-treatment, and bullying, particularly towards juniors, can unfortunately paint a different picture. But imagine if we adopted the spirit of the reindeer cyclone? Shared responsibility: Each member, regardless of seniority, contributes to the team's success and well-being. We lift each other up, not tear each other down. Protecting the vulnerable: We support our colleagues, especially newcomers, offering guidance and shielding them from negativity. No one gets left behind in the cyclone's eye. Adaptability and agility: Just like the reindeer adjust their formation to face threats, strong teams thrive on their ability to navigate challenges and embrace change. As a military veteran, I witnessed this spirit firsthand in the Indian Army. The concept of "leave no man behind" wasn't just a slogan, it was an unwavering ethos. And guess what? These same principles translate beautifully to the business world. So, the next time you encounter negativity in the office, remember the reindeer cyclone. Let it be an inspiration to build a culture of collaboration, support, and shared success.
