U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Announces $30 Billion Investment in (Section 8) Housing Choice Vouchers. Highlights: - Housing Vouchers assist over 2.3 million families in need of housing - Since last year, the HCV program saw a $2 billion increase in funding.... Since 2022, this budget allocation has grown nearly 20% (over $4 billion), allowing the value of a Housing Choice Voucher to keep pace with rising rental costs. - “The (Section 8) Housing Choice Vouchers program is the most successful rental program ever conceived,” said Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for Public and Indian Housing, Richard J. Monocchio. We would agree. The HUD Section8 program is a critical lifeline for families with children, older adults, veterans, and people with disabilities, and increasingly, people experiencing homelessness. We applaud HUD Acting Secretary Adrianne Todman, former HUD Secretary Marcia Fudge, LA Mayor Karen Bass, and HACLA CEO Doug Guthrie for their incredible work to provide assistance to families and individuals who are in need of affordable housing options. | HUD.gov / U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Read more about this initiative here: https://lnkd.in/dJdDXsQG

What do you think about this? Gov. Ned Lamont emphasized the role of homeownership in building wealth and community ties, with the average loan amount at $30,000 per household. Despite the program’s popularity, Sen. Henri Martin voiced concerns, arguing that adding grants in a tight housing market only worsens demand. With the state needing 90,000 new homes to meet job growth, Martin suggested that the program does little to address the underlying shortage. Nonetheless, the State Bond Commission approved the funding extension. #Homeownership #FirstTimeHomebuyer #AffordableHousing #CTRealEstate #HousingSupport #TimeToOwn #HousingCrisis #ConnecticutHousing #ForgivableLoans #GovLamont

Today in Los Angeles, Congressman Jimmy Gomez (CA-34) – an advocate for housing reform and affordable rental and transitional supportive housing – joined us for a roundtable discussion that brought together leaders in affordable housing and other stakeholders from across the state. We appreciate the opportunity to work together with Congressman Gomez, our members, and community stakeholders to create solutions to address the growing housing affordability crisis. Housing affordability is a pressing issue felt in far too many communities across the U.S. We remain focused on helping to solve the affordable housing crisis by working with our members to deliver solutions to support residents facing unprecedented housing challenges. Since 1990, Federal Home Loan Bank of San Francisco has awarded $1.3 billion in Affordable Housing Program grants to construct, preserve, or purchase over 150,000 units of quality rental and owner-occupied affordable housing. HUD Allocates Over $420 Million to Eliminate Lead Hazards in Homes In a significant move to protect Americans from the dangers of lead exposure, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has announced more than $420 million in funding. These grants, awarded across 32 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico, are aimed at removing lead hazards from homes, particularly HUD-assisted properties, ensuring the safety of children and families. This initiative will improve the identification and prevention of housing-related hazards, expand vital services, and support ongoing research. In addition to the lead hazard removal, $2 million will be allocated to tackle other home hazards alongside weatherization efforts, and nearly $10 million will be dedicated to advancing research on controlling lead and similar dangers. HUD’s commitment aligns with the Biden-Harris Administration's broader strategy to safeguard communities from lead exposure. This includes recent actions to replace lead service lines within 10 years, as well as an investment of $2.6 billion from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law for water system improvements and lead pipe replacements. HUD Acting Secretary Adrianne Todman emphasized the urgency of the initiative, stating, "Addressing lead poisoning is a top priority at HUD... The awards announced today further our commitment to creating safe housing, especially for children and vulnerable residents." Through these efforts, HUD aims to make homes safer for low-income homeowners and renters, preventing serious health risks associated with lead exposure. www.HUD.gov

The state is already short more than 110,000 units and will need 550,000 more homes over the next 20 years, according to a 2022 state housing needs report. Rep. Maxine Dexter, D-Portland, who chairs the House Committee on Housing and Homelessness, brings up a point that many people in our community feel - there just aren't enough housing options for our middle-income earners. Hopefully, that will change with the Bill that Governor Kotek is proposing, which creates a $75 million fund to build more affordable middle-class housing. As part of the Bill, interest-free loans will be available for local governments to use to finance the production of more homes that are intended for people between 80-120% of the area's median income. What are your thoughts on this Bill? Share in the comments. Source: https://zurl.co/a3Au
