ISC's U.S. Program team recently met in Houston for a staff retreat. While in Texas, we visited Partnership for Resilient Communities (PRC) partner, Emancipation Economic Development Council (EEDC) in their main office. The EEDC team, led by Alicia Neal, provided updates to their project with PRC and showcased their incredible community store. As an incubator for community business leaders, EEDC boasts various, handcrafted items in the community store—from bags and t-shirts, to jewelry and other items. The organization also hosts events and trainings for local business leaders. Thank you so much for the hospitality, EEDC! #climateresilience #incubator #economicdevelopment #Houston #Texas

The PIE team had a great time learning from many amazing colleagues who are building and supporting community schools across the nation at the National Community Schools and Family Engagement Conference (CSxFE24). We were honored to spend time with our partners at ACT Now https://lnkd.in/gKnc7HQ9, who have received not one, but TWO Full-Service Community Schools (FSCS) state scaling grants for Illinois. PIE is serving as the external evaluation partner for both grants. The conference opened up with an engaging workshop for FSCS grantees. One key discussion at this session centered around shared leadership. No matter what sector you work in, we found the following reflection question incredibly helpful to consider when building partnerships: What kind of partnership are you looking to create 1) completely shared leadership with equal voice and consensus; 2) advising to get feedback that informs decisions; or 3) solo decision-making? Each type of partnership has its place, and it's important to be transparent at all times.

📣 Exciting news — Vancouver Foundation is committing $9 million to invest in BIPOC leaders in B.C.! Through LEVEL BIPOC Grants, we are offering flexible, multi-year operational funding to BIPOC-led, BIPOC youth-led and youth-engaging organizations, empowering BIPOC leaders across the province and laying the foundation for the next generation. While a lot will remain the same, we've made a few tweaks to this cycle to prioritize BIPOC youth leadership and an equitable funding distribution. This year, at least 60 grants will be available, distributed through two grant streams: BIPOC Leadership and BIPOC Youth Leadership. Each award is $150,000, to be distributed in equal amounts over three years. Applications will open July 15 until August 15. We are also hosting two information sessions, July 16 and July 17, for you to connect with Grant Managers to review the application process together. Founder/CEO at Orange Light BSO | Founder - Male Empowerment Network (MEN) | Business Development Strategist | Management Consultant | Speaker | Trainer | Coach | BeSpoke Service Provider
Six years ago to the day, I wore this T-shirt to an activity and someone asked me jokingly but with a serious undertone 'What goals are you achieving?" I smiled and remove myself from their presence, spending the following months moving further away from this person until I didn't have to see anymore unless it was by choice. I had recently moved to the city from the county of Berbice and many people believe Berbicians who come to the city aren't very bright and are very gullible. I chose to do, this in place of reacting; I took the following years to respond to the question "What goals are you achieving?" Over the last 6 years from that very moment, I have achieved the following goals: 1. Started my own business to help start-ups and small business owners to scale and sustain their dreams. 2. Co-founded 2 business networks. 3. Started a non-governmental organization with a specific focus on male empowerment. 4. Lived my dream and travel to all 10 administrative regions of Guyana. 5. Facilitated empowerment sessions in all 10 administrative regions. 6. Developed an international brand, as a coach, public speaker, mentor, and leadership development practitioner. 7. Attained the highest level of Award the Toastmasters' program has (Distinguished Toastmasters). 8. Inspiring youths to be better leaders and live their dreams. 9. Contributed to nation-building and decision-making in areas of social development programming. 10. Developing a sustainable growth plan and couple new business ventures. It's not where you started, it's having a clear vision of the pinnacles you would like to achieve and charting a course of action to get there. I will ensure to continue along this growth path and impact leaving my unique print in the place we all call home, while I have breathe in my lungs. This is me, I will not be stopped, I will not be pushed into a corner, and I will not be muzzled, as I am here to grow through the challenges of life. Richard R.
