Americas for Conservation + the Arts 501c3 (AFC+A) was founded with a mission of advancing healthy communities through environmental and cultural stewardship that bridge the conservation and creative inclusion gaps and serve the most underserved.🌳🌿🎨 The #EJ4Climate Grant will support the foundation of their tree planting campaign to scaffold lifelong stewardship, economic opportunity, and #ClimateJustice. The association’s overarching goal is to improve the metro #Denver tree canopy and establish a diverse, multigenerational group of climate stewards and professionals. Expected outcomes: 🔹 Creation of a workforce pipeline from involvement in AFC+A projects to careers in conservation. 🔹 Supporting climate action partners in understanding the importance of BIPOC communities representation in their workforce and a connection to candidates with skills and training aligned with their needs. Families in Appalachian #Ohio are seeing new job opportunities thanks to the Biden Administration’s American Climate Corps. This program is set to hire and train 20,000 people in conservation, climate, and #cleanenergy jobs, focusing on areas hard-hit by economic downturns. With the decline of traditional industries, these well-paying jobs, along with paid training, are opening doors to new career paths in industries like clean energy. Today is the last day to apply for Cohort 6 of the Climatebase Fellowship! As a Cohort 5 fellow, I can say that this was, and continues to be, a worthwhile experience! I originally applied for the fellowship in order to become more educated on the different climate industry sectors and to acquire tips on how to get a climate job. Climatebase offered this and so much more! Here are some highlights: - Connecting with outstanding career coach Magda Kufrej (she/her), whose mission is to help people find work that brings them joy. - Leading a zero waste capstone project with a fabulous group of fellows: Alexis Miller, MS, Jacqueline Kuo and Debra Flieder. We have learned a lot together! Stay tuned on upcoming posts where we share findings from a survey we distributed about existing reuse/resale online platforms! - Participating in fellowship groups such as the Circular Economy Knowledge Sharing & Support and Finance & Investing groups. - Getting connected with a climate tech group local to my area (Baltimore Climate Tech Meetup) that I didn't know existed before joining Climatebase. It feels great to be connected with so many like-minded souls!

REASON FOR HOPE I am frequently asked how I maintain hope in the midst of our many urgent planetary crises. My answer is always the same. I have hope because I know spectacular people working for a better future. Dr. Heidi Roop is one of those people. "Heidi Roop, Director of the University of Minnesota Climate Adaptation Partnership (MCAP), is joining the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy on a temporary assignment as the Assistant Director for Climate Services. She will also serve as Deputy Director for Services with the U.S. Global Change Research Program. Roop is an assistant professor of climate science and Extension specialist at the University of Minnesota.
