💭 Reflections from Glastonbury I took a step away from my usual job to dive into the vibrant and chaotic world of Glastonbury, Europe's biggest festival, welcoming over 200,000 attendees. This experience is always special to me – it's a time to be present, to focus on the now, and to be part of a massive team effort that makes this incredible event happen. The atmosphere at Glastonbury is electric, and being part of this big machine is exhilarating. It's a chance to bring teams together, to implement lessons from previous years, and to elevate our performance. Every shift, every interaction, every step (and there were a lot of them – I averaged 38,000 steps a day!) counts towards creating an unforgettable experience for the festival-goers. Of course, not everything was smooth sailing. Dealing with challenging individuals reminded me of the importance of empathy and effective communication. Sometimes, it feels like people haven't heard the saying, "you catch more bees with honey." It's key to approach teamwork as a partnership and focus on collaboration rather than pointing out flaws. Transparency and honesty about motives when asking for help can make a huge difference. Every action, no matter how small, contributes to the overall customer experience, especially when thousands are pouring through the gates. It's about bringing people along on the journey with you, overcommunicating, and motivating them to go the extra mile. A key takeaway: never talk down to people – whether they're punters or colleagues. It doesn't make you a hero; in fact, it does quite the opposite. Sometimes, amidst the whirlwind, it's essential to take a step back, breathe, and centre yourself to plan the best course of action. It has taken me a week to recover, but I wouldn’t trade this experience for anything. I can’t wait to do it all over again next year! We’re now in the week to two weeks window of opening our first Dead Rabbit outside of New York City, and I wanted to use this opportunity to explain what instigated our growth, why we chose Austin, and some of the many amazing idiosyncrasies of our Austin store each day until we open to the public. As many of you know, The Dead Rabbit has changed markedly in the past few years with an approach of balancing the founding core of the company whilst evolving the outward manifestations of our said core. When we opened The Dead Rabbit, it was all about bringing the Irish Pub in America into the 21st century. When we opened, that initially manifested in our split-level concept and infusing the Irish Pub with great quality cocktails, a banging Irish Coffee, and a great Irish Whiskey selection. While this hasn't changed, we've broadened our aperture to doggedly focus on showcasing the very best of contemporary Irish culture, challenging the manifold misconceptions around our culture in America, and showing that an Irish Pub can be relevant, can be both hospitality and quality driven, and can be beautifully designed. In order to achieve these goals and our mission as a company, we simply had to grow as we wouldn't be able to successfully execute this with one bar in New York, or numerous Dead Rabbits in New York for that matter. I fully believe there should and can be a Dead Rabbit in most major cities in America, and who knows, further down the line, maybe some internationally, all complemented by the other concepts we've launched or are in the process of developing which celebrate different stories and serve different consumer sets. However, we don't want The Dead Rabbit to scale poorly by losing strategic discipline, operational rigor, or commodifying or chainifying The Dead Rabbit. In addition, each new Dead Rabbit must simultaneously execute our core key experience drivers whilst ensuring each Dead Rabbit is relevant to said market. That’s a delicate dance which I'll communicate how we intend to do over the coming week or so. So tune in if you're interested, or tune out if you're not! ❤️🇮🇪

Founded in 2016 by Kip Piper and Dan Bolger, the business has grown from its original Ghetto Golf experience in Cains Brewery, Liverpool to become a multi-venue business with 6 indoor sites across the UK, currently employing more than 260 people. Wednesday night was #networking night at the Greater Reston Chamber of Commerce with Charles Kapur, MBA, and Mark Ingrao, CCP, CAE of Dulles Regional Chamber of Commerce in a combined effort. This was not only the biggest one ever, it seemed to be the most successful as well. 📽️ Hosted by LOOK Cinemas, an uptown bar & grill over urban streets of the Town Center which just happens to have an 11-screen cinema. They pulled out all the stops - 4 bartenders slinging complimentary drinks, never flustered, for the 200+ person crowd. It was loud, but gave us all a glimpse of what a luxurious night out on the town might "Look" like (pun intended). So to give our ringing ears a break, we go in one of the gigantic screening rooms full of about 120 leather recliners (standing room only) and a banquet spread in front of the screen - sampling from their menu. 🎬 This is where the quiet conversation start to happen. Once again I was able to see firsthand how my "magic networking question" and #breadcrumbsofVulnerability turn conversations into friends and collaborators by the end of the night (which went almost 2 hours past the supposed cut off time, BTW). Notable among them, Earl Whitlock, Elizabeth Bainbridge, Ayesha S. Haider, MBA, PMP, Howard Albin, and Kenny Mulligan. All with big ambitious objectives that I am proud to say I can walk beside. For episode one, I chose a venue that is ahead of many others in utilizing all their square footage to better serve their guests. Although it was a challenge to find more ways to drive revenue...
