So here are simple, still effective steps you can use for market research before making your first move on the marketing copy: 1. Begin by Googling your competition. 2. Read through customer reviews for products similar to yours. 3. Take note of the negative feedback in those reviews. 4. Organize the complaints to identify recurring issues and how they’re described. 5. Compile a list of these frequent concerns. 6. Shout out to Arun C Kumar for a job well done with this one! 5 stars for me! Arun talks bluntly about how marketers/advertisers are grappling with data, especially as a tool to achieve their objectives of reaching the right consumers that will deliver outcomes - along with practical steps to take & ways of maneuvering through all the BS. This is one of those things that we all say we are doing wonderfully in pitch decks, reaching the right person, at the right time, in the right context (yea effing right), but as soon as you dig you start to see those promises are REALLY difficult to execute, especially with a fragmented landscape of platforms/properties & how people consume content. Arun, speaks clearly & bluntly about that too. The most unexpected thing that you will takeaway from this book though is how Arun sheds light on the other dynamics at play. Arun spoke to some elements of human/people dynamics that are normally difficult to spot and even more difficult to put into words. So for me, it was a really insightful way to see how someone who is good at commanding a room thinks & observes their surroundings. Recommend everyone working at an advertising agency or marketing department pick this one up.
