We’ve been slack on the social media’s, a mix of being busy and not really enjoying doing posts. Most of what you see is waffle and humble brags. Here’s what we’ve been doing - We’ve been on a big job, 53 fire doors in a disability school in #northamptonshire. Every door had to be lipped in beech, intumescent fire strips routed into each door, soft closures on each, two sets of handles/latches/locks on each, finished with kick plates. Enjoyed this one, being half term we had a solid deadline to meet, we got it done. Here’s how we do our mortice locks…. This week, I started teaching my first classes of the semester at Western New Mexico University as an adjunct professor in the graduate counseling program. It's my 25th year teaching graduate counseling and vocational rehabilitation counseling students across the country. As the new semester begins for high school and college students, it's crucial that we ensure our students with disabilities experience inclusive and accessible learning environments. Are our classrooms truly accessible? Is the software and hardware we use designed with accessibility in mind? Are we fully committed to inclusiveness by making reasonable accommodations? With the start of the new semester, it's an ideal time to assess our role and our systems to guarantee full inclusiveness and accessibility. I am fortunate to work for Alliance Enterprises, a company that is continuously committed to accessibility in all its products. I also benefit personally from their focus on accommodation and accessibility. Watching our accessibility experts in action reinforces the importance of maintaining a similar commitment in our own classes. School holidays are done (phew!) and kids are back in classrooms. But all over Victoria, many kids under 15 have been toiling in their holiday jobs.
