Completely agree with all of this, and will be working on a similar infographic for investment and support levels through COGC. For 6 years the FWDF worked well to support businesses, upskill employees and provide incredible boosts to productivity, staff retention, business resiliency and many other metrics. By any measure - including the Scottish Government’s own review in January 2023 - the FWDF was a success. My own thoughts on this are that the decision to remove funding for 2023/24 and 2024/25 - while the Apprenticeship Levy is still being collected by HMRC and the Scottish Government are still receiving their share in funding allocations from the UK Government - is extremely disappointing. I understand that we’re in a challenging time for budgets all across the board but a better trained workforce gives us better performing businesses, which gives us a boost to the economy which, at the end of the day, means more money collected by government and so more money for budgets. At COGC our focus is, as always, on our stakeholders and the relationships we have built. We are still here to help with upskilling and reskilling needs and will do whatever we can to help now and in the future.
Flexible workforce Development Fund 💰 Now that I’ve had time to deal with the immediate impact of the fund being cut I wanted to share my personal thoughts on the decision. Whilst I am very aware and understanding of the hard financial decisions that have to be made I am incredibly disappointed of the decision to remove the fund from the 23/24 and 24/25 budget. I have seen first hand how instrumental this money has been for our local business community and at a time where businesses have faced some of the most testing times this fund and the training received has been a lifeline in many ways. Over the years we have used this fund to help businesses find solutions to problems, to penetrate new markets, to innovate, to diversify. We have helped tackle both recruitment and retention issues, we have supported succession planning, we have created future leaders. We have supported career progression. We have helped businesses become more sustainable and more safe. We have supported the transition and advancement of skills for those whose skills and jobs would otherwise become obsolete. That really is just to name a few ways in which this fund has helped. Ultimately we have used this fund to help strengthen our economy and to support growth and at a time when we need this more than ever it makes the decision to cut this even more difficult to hear. The picture below highlights how many local people and businesses benefit from the fund last year in Dundee and Angus. At a national and local level the college will continue to make this point clear and I want to assure our business community that we are looking for alternative funding and ways in which we can continue to support you. I would of course suggest that you ensure industry has a voice and that it is heard. Our doors are still very much open! Thank you for being loyal customers and we look forward to continuing to work with you.

💼 Interesting insight: Preparing for a business transition is an urgent imperative for Baby Boomers, as it impacts personal wealth, family, and the future of stakeholders. 💡 Insights: - Transitioning a business requires significant focus, action, time, and money. - Failure to provide for business continuity affects employees, vendors, customers, charities, and communities. - Without a successful transition, the alternative is a business shutdown, causing job losses and suffering for families and communities. - To successfully transition, a business owner must address maximizing business value, preparing financially for a lifestyle without business income, and planning for their next act. - Common hurdles include insufficient time, unplanned disruptions, unpreparedness for sale or succession. 🗒️ My thoughts: Transition planning is crucial for business owners to ensure a smooth process and maximize net proceeds. Insufficient time and unplanned events can negatively impact the outcome. Owners should also consider the readiness of their business for sale or succession. ❓ Question: How do you plan for a successful business transition and ensure a smooth process for all stakeholders involved? Financial Planning + Retirement Planning | Busy Professionals + Families | Imagine your future | Prioritize what matters to you the most.
Are you a business owner? If so, consider creating a business transition strategy. Business owners often put off this task simply because of the amount of focus, action, time, and money involved. However, a business's succession strategy—or lack of one- impacts many people. Business transitions affect personal wealth, families, employees, vendors, customers, charities, and communities. How can you prepare to transition out of your business? Here are a few tips: ◾ Find a holistic approach that works for you and your business. ◾ Address your personal, business, and financial goals. ◾ Give yourself enough time to strategically and thoughtfully make decisions. ◾ Small business owners especially don't often consider the option of selling their business. Having a strategy for selling in your back pocket may reduce some stress involved. Source: https://lnkd.in/gqdAx8Wn
