Ciao! Join our Classroom Correspondent, Cali, as she takes us through a field study! Cali and her classmates spent months learning about the science behind yeast, the different types of bread that exist around the world, and all of the ingredients and tools used to make various doughs. Now, in this field study, they're able to take what they have learned in the classroom and use that knowledge to make their very own pizzas. Bon Appétit!

The phrase "Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit; Wisdom is knowing not to put it in a fruit salad" serves as a compelling instructional mantra. In the realm of education, principals and teachers impart knowledge—the factual information that a tomato, by definition, is a fruit. Yet, true education doesn't end there. Wisdom, the deeper educational goal, involves teaching students the critical thinking skills to apply knowledge in the most appropriate contexts. It is not enough for students to know that a tomato is a fruit; they must also understand that it is the application of knowledge that matters most. This distinction reflects the dual responsibilities of educators: to provide students with the foundational knowledge they need to understand the world and to guide them in applying this knowledge with discernment and insight. This statement underscores an essential educational philosophy: preparing students not just for tests, but for the nuanced decisions of everyday life.

Knowledge is knowing tomatoes are a fruit. Wisdom is not putting tomatoes in fruit salad. Without wisdom, people are led about by their ‘knows.’ True or false? It’s not what you know, it’s who you know. Well, it depends on the application of that statement. People can teach you what they know. But if you do not understand the experience and heart of your teacher, you can easily misuse the head knowledge they give you without achieving the purpose of their lesson. You can be led about by what you know without fulfilling the true purpose of that knowledge. Sometimes we know when we make a difference and other times, we don’t – but we are making a difference. If we care, then we are. Sometimes the quietest student is the one who is taking in more of what we have to offer than any other. Sometimes the most obnoxious student is the one who considers you his or her favorite teacher. Warm up idea: Tell your students you will buy some 7up for them and ask them what kinds of foods they would like to have with it. Food names or phrases are intended to have exactly 7 letters. This activity enhances vocabulary retrieval and concentration.
