Fugro vessel ready to be equipped with methanol engines The vessel was converted in the Netherlands as part of the Fugro-led Methanol as Energy Step Towards Emission-free Dutch Shipping (MENENS) consortium with a grant received at the end of 2021 from the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO). The now-completed vessel adjustments to the Fugro Pioneer allow two of its four original engines to be replaced by methanol engines, ensuring services can still be offered in regions where green methanol is not yet available, Fugro said. The delivery and installation of the methanol-capable engines are expected in the second half of this year. “The methanol conversion of the Fugro Pioneer is not only a pivotal move in diminishing our vessel emissions as part of our Net Zero 2035 journey, but it also stimulates the green methanol market. We will continue to invest in innovative solutions that not only help our clients, but also support us in reaching our company objectives,” said Barbara Geelen, Fugro’s CFO. Fugro Pioneer’s next task includes performing a geophysical survey for the development of the Doordewind offshore wind zone in the Netherlands. https://bit.ly/3TRNdSz #methanol #alternativefuel #renewable #cleanfuel #futurefuel #energytransition #sustainable

An essential component of shipping’s journey to net carbon-neutral emissions is the ability to retrofit solutions to the existing fleet. Specialist offshore vessel operator Fugro is working towards lower carbon operations with the conversion of geophysical vessel Fugro Pioneer to Methanol propulsion. The conversion work on Fugro Pioneer allows two of its four original engines to be replaced by methanol engines, ensuring services can still be offered in regions where green methanol is not yet available. Barbara Geelen, Fugro chief financial officer told @reNews: "The methanol conversion of the Fugro Pioneer is not only a pivotal move in diminishing our vessel emissions as part of our Net Zero 2035 journey, but it also stimulates the green methanol market.” Read the article here: https://bit.ly/3TQvNFI. 🌊 EVENT: GUH Moorings and Anchors Conference & Workshop 📅 Wednesday, 06 March 2024 🕣 08:30 – 16:30 📍 The Biscuit Factory, Newcastle Major investment is set to be made in developing floating offshore wind in UK waters in the coming decades. To deliver this, thousands of anchors, lengths of chain, buoyancy units and clump weights will be required alongside thousands of kilometres of rope. Next month, Global Underwater Hub will host a one-day conference and workshop focused on the key elements of the life cycle of mooring and anchoring systems that will be needed to meet the planned investment in floating offshore wind, not just in the UK, but also overseas. Taking place in Newcastle, this event will bring together key industry stakeholders to discuss underwater mooring and anchoring systems. If you are involved in floating offshore wind, or designing, manufacturing, transporting, installing, inspecting, repairing and maintaining mooring and anchoring systems, this conference and workshop is a must attend event. An excellent line-up of speakers will present at the event, including representatives of InterMoor, Bridon-Bekaert The Ropes Group, Delmar Systems, DOF, First Marine Solutions, Flotation Energy, Global Maritime, Ossian Wind Farm, PGS, SCHOTTEL Marine Technologies and Global Underwater Hub. Book your place and be part of the discussion around this important area of underwater engineering. 💻 Full details: https://lnkd.in/eKN8z3wP #GUHMoorings #GlobalUnderwaterHub #GUHEvents #Newcastle #MooringsandAnchors #offshorewind #floatingoffshorewind #floatingsystems #moorings #floatingwind #underwaterengineering #Newcastlevents #offshorerenewables

As commercial maritime operations venture into deeper, more demanding offshore environments, having secure and accurate data on operational currents is critical for optimizing vessel operations safely. The Nortek VM Operations Series emerges as a crucial innovation, offering real-time oceanographic data tailored for the offshore market. This technology plays a pivotal role in sub-seabed mapping for new offshore wind farm developments. The challenge in establishing offshore wind farms is considerable. These ventures require extensive planning to navigate and mitigate risks effectively. A significant concern during the construction and installation phases is the potential presence of hazards beneath the seabed, particularly unexploded ordnance (pUXO). Detecting these hazards promptly and accurately is a critical step that must be addressed before any construction begins. #OffshoreInnovation #MaritimeSafety #NortekVMSeries #Oceanography #WindFarmDevelopment #SubseaMapping #RenewableEnergy #MarineTechnology #pUXOSafety #OffshoreWindFarms Nortek

In April the offshore installation vessel Orion (DEME Group) completed the installation of 29 monopile foundations for the 15 MW turbines at Ocean Winds' Moray West offshore wind farm in Scotland, despite challenging winter conditions. The project, which will produce 882 MW of energy, marks a significant milestone with advanced tools like the Quad Vibro Hammer and M90 bolting equipment. Heavy equipment used in offshore lifting operations requires delicate handling. Synthetic round slings, such as Enduro Softslings, are lightweight and significantly reduce the risk of damaging expensive tools and materials. Additionally, these slings require minimal deck space for storage and are easier for riggers to handle, which helps streamline operations where time is always a critical factor. Learn more about our heavy-duty HMPE softslings on our website https://lnkd.in/eNTX_-sF or let our product specialists advise you on technical questions and challenges. Companies like Foss are making big moves in the wind industry on the upper East Coast. The infrastructure for vessels that support this industry is getting a much-needed overhaul, making it safer and more efficient for companies like Foss to do their job. As a Maritime MSP for Foss tugs, I can attest that these new facilities will make it easier for us to do our job also. #offshorewind, #MaritimeMSP, #vesselIT
