Today, as we celebrate our beautiful planet and reflect on the global importance of environmental conservation, we wanted to highlight our ongoing dedication to sustainability in our design approach. ‘As architects, we are inventors, curators, and custodians of the cities of the future generations. The responsibility therefore lies within our work and our thought-process to think beyond legislations and guidelines.’ – Christina Seilern At SSA, we have a rich history of designing for positive change, striving to exemplify sustainable development at every phase of our projects. From minimizing energy consumption during construction and operation, to promoting biodiversity and fostering socio-economic resilience, our design approach is rooted in a profound respect for nature and a commitment to restoring its balance for a more equitable future. We firmly advocate for the harmonious integration of nature and the built environment, considering nature an indispensable element of our designs, akin to a foundational building material. Upholding this ethos, we pledge to continue delivering projects aligned with best practices in sustainability, guided by pivotal agreements such as the Paris Agreement, the RIBA 2030 Challenge, and the UK's ambitious target of achieving net zero emissions by 2050. As we mark Earth Day, it is an important reminder that we as individuals can all make a difference. Whether through supporting sustainable architecture, reducing our carbon footprint, or advocating for policies that prioritise environmental preservation, we can all contribute to ensuring that every day is Earth Day. #EarthDay #Sustainability #UKArchitecture #GreenBuilding #ClimateAction

To meet the goals of the Paris Climate Agreement, we must eliminate all greenhouse gas emissions from the built environment by 2050. It may be surprising, but the building sector is the largest consumer of energy and the leading source of greenhouse gas emissions worldwide. We are deeply committed to partnering with our clients to reduce their environmental impact and pave the way for a climate-resilient future. Busting Sustainability Myths 🏗️♻️ Is going green synonymous with higher costs? Think again! 💡 Myth: Sustainable buildings are more expensive to build and maintain. ❌ Truth: While the upfront costs might seem higher, sustainable buildings often lead to significant long-term savings on energy, water, and maintenance. Plus, there are government incentives and tax breaks to help offset initial expenses. 💰 At BioBuildSolutions , we believe in creating sustainable solutions that are both environmentally friendly and economically viable. Debunking the Myth: Sustainable Development is NOT Always Costly! I recently attended a seminar on Green Building and LEED for homes, and I'd like to share a key takeaway: sustainable development doesn't have to break the bank! The myth that sustainable development is costly can be a significant barrier to adoption. However, the truth is that it's all about making informed decisions and balancing variables to achieve your desired performance. By playing with different variables such as: - Materials selection - Building orientation - Insulation and windows - Renewable energy systems - Water efficiency measures You can create a high-performing, sustainable building that meets your budget! In fact, many sustainable design elements can actually save you money in the long run through: - Reduced energy consumption - Lower water bills - Increased property value - Improved occupant health and productivity Don't let the myth hold you back! Embrace sustainable development and create buildings that are not only environmentally friendly but also economically viable. #Sustainability #GreenBuilding #LEED #MythBusting #SustainableDevelopment #EcoFriendly #BuildingDesign #EnergyEfficiency #WaterConservation #RenewableEnergy

Engineers, urban planners, designers, and other professionals in the built environment have an important role in responding to climate challenges through our work. We know that a third of the world’s waste is produced by the built environment sector alone. Human systems must co-exist and evolve together with nature to promote the health of our people and the planet, so we’re calling on professionals in the built environment to adopt a regenerative design approach by breaking away from the ‘take, make, waste’ cycle, to reverse ecological damage and regenerate planetary health. I’m proud to share Arup’s new report, Regenerative Design: Towards living in harmony, which outlines practical steps you can take to implement regenerative design principles. It also reveals how designers around the world are already doing this - from this building in Harare, Zimbabwe, which is designed like a termite mound to stay cool without air conditioning, to an approach in Singapore where concrete is made from demolition waste and metals. #OutNow | DETAIL 6.2024: Climate and Resources >> https://lnkd.in/ggRMY-eU Sustainability encompasses various practices, all aimed at reducing carbon emissions. Adaptive reuse of buildings and minimizing embodied energy (grey energy) are crucial for achieving climate neutrality. Equally vital measures are the efficient use of resources and reducing operational energy consumption in buildings designed for long-term use. Numerous strategies can reduce a building’s environmental impact. With this June issue, we spotlight six diverse projects that are taking steps towards a climate-neutral future in very different ways. Choosing to move beyond a restrictive mindset, we feature not only urban timber constructions and adaptive reuse with building extensions but also a concrete building and a vacation home in a field. These include two apartment buildings in Barcelona and Eindhoven with low-tech solutions and circular construction. In Lot, France, a new school building by Dietrich Untertrifaller generates more energy than it consumes and the BOB Campus by Raumwerk.Architekten in Wuppertal leverages a site-specific resource for sustainability: existing structures. Enjoy the issue!
