📢 Attention: 1099 Filing 📢 📅 Mark your calendars for January 31st, 2024! 📅 IRS requires businesses to report non-employee compensation on Form 1099-NEC. If you pay an individual or an independent contractor more than $600 in a year, you must file a 1099-NEC. Remember, this applies to sole proprietors, partnerships, and LLCs. 📝 🚫 But wait, don't file 1099 for employees! 🚫 Employee compensation should be reported on form W2. Avoid penalties by correctly classifying your workers. ⚖️ 💼 A trade or business activity carried out for gain or profit falls under the 1099-NEC requirement. Payments for non-business-related services like babysitters, gardeners, and housekeepers are exempt. 🏠 📝 Don't forget, you need to send a copy of the 1099 form to the contractor and file another copy with the Federal and State governments. 📄 For more information, visit the IRS website: 🔗 [IRS Form 1099-NEC](https://lnkd.in/gBX_rgZa) 🔗 [IRS Form 1099-MISC](https://lnkd.in/gdfpmxeF) Stay compliant and avoid any unnecessary headaches! 💼💪 #IRS #1099NEC #BusinessOwners #TaxFiling

Accountable plans make it relatively easy to reimburse employees for certain work-related expenses free from income and employment taxes. Although these plans may involve increased administrative time, they can help your not-for-profit retain staffers who travel frequently for work or often pay for work-related supplies out of their own pocket. Your plan doesn’t need to be in writing but be sure to pay attention to IRS rules. For example, covered expenses must have a business connection, be “reasonable” and be documented. Contact us to discuss whether an accountable plan is right for your organization.

Teaching construction professionals to integrate safety, quality, and productivity with over 2 million on-line learners
In case you haven't heard the sound of employers celebrating, a judge has struck down the ban on non-compete agreements that was set to take effect soon. To be clear, I think that non-compete agreements for the majority of employees are unfair and tend to be forced on employees by employers who are in a position of power. How fair is it for a bad employer to be able say "you can quit if you want to, but you can't go work for a competitor or start your own company." The Associated Builders and Contractors has celebrated the win on this stating the ban would have "...forc(ed) employers to rework their compensation and talent strategy." Wasn't that the point? Incidentally, if you are on the HR side of the #construction industry and want to stay up on things like this, check out fellow LinkedIn Learning Instructor, Ashley Herd for the best advice and latest information. #alwaysbelearning #constructionishard https://lnkd.in/gjK2e3U3
