Happy Pride Month!! As a labor union that represents over 1,500 members, SLOCEA is committed to supporting & advocating for each of them, including those who are part of the LGBTQ+ community. This month, we stand proud and united to commemorate Pride Month, a celebration of love, diversity, acceptance, and self-expression. This is not just a time to acknowledge the struggles and victories of the LGBTQ+ community but also to reflect on the importance of creating a more inclusive and empathetic society. As we celebrate Pride, let us also remember the importance of allyship. Being an ally means supporting and standing up for the rights of those who identify as LGBTQ+. It means creating safe spaces at work and in our communities where everyone can be their authentic selves. It requires constant learning, understanding, and committing to equality and justice. This Pride month—and all year round—let's strive to spread love, promote inclusivity, and uplift each other. Because when one of us succeeds, we all do. How we create a non-discriminatory atmosphere for our LGBTQ+ patients? To create a non-discriminatory atmosphere for LGBTQ+ patients, ensure staff receives diversity training, implement inclusive policies, display LGBTQ+ affirming materials, use inclusive language, and respect privacy and confidentiality. Regularly assess and update practices to foster a welcoming environment.

Learning the audible and non audible clues or warning signs that an individual may be considering suicide and learning how to start a conversation has proven to help save lives. Check out these resources from The Trevor Project for tips to remember.

Did you know being queer has been common in cultures around the world since we first started making human records? Did you know the words homosexuality and heterosexuality were 'invented' in the late 19th century? How has being LGBTQ+ been shaped by the medical and scientific communities? June is already in full swing and, along with brighter skies, we are acknowledging the importance of Pride Month – a time dedicated to uplifting LGBTQ+ voices, celebrating LGBTQ+ culture, and supporting LGBTQ+ rights.
