What is the difference between UEFA EURO 2024 and partnerships?   Football is about winning. Partnerships are about win-win. Partnerships are not about optimizing own profit. If you lose, I lose. Supporters understand what their team stands for and why each player wears the national jersey. This deep connection between the team and its fans creates a unique and passionate atmosphere. ⚽️ Club football has always had a different dynamic where money plays a significant role, making the sense of belonging less direct. However, it doesn't have to lose all its essence. Growing inequalities are undermining the game's integrity and negatively impacting merit. 💪 By promoting a balanced and equitable system, the #UEC seeks to preserve the spirit of the game while embracing a sense of fairness and solidarity. The new format of UEFA's club competitions has a large effect on the financial benefits of competing outside of the domestic leagues. Larger European teams such as Arsenal F.C, Real Madrid C.F., Paris Saint-Germain, and others will still benefit in a similar manner as before but for the smaller teams such as ACF Fiorentina, participating in a European competition could be a critical component for their financial success. According to this article by KPMG, just participating in the UEFA Champions League would bring in revenue of €15.64 million compared to just €2.94 million for participating in the Europa Conference League. Dubai's looming entry into the EuroLeague is sparking a wave of anticipation across the basketball world. With €150 million on the table over six years, courtesy of the Emir, the world is taking notice. Initially aiming to host two Final Four tournaments, they shifted gears to propose a Super Cup during the season, a move that piqued interest across Europe. Dubai's eyeing a collaboration with the EuroLeague to establish a league in the Middle East, offering a direct path to EuroLeague qualification for the regional champion. They're eager to field their own team, boasting a state-of-the-art facility, the Coca Cola Arena. There are however, hurdles to clear. Budgets need careful consideration, and decisions must be made about which league to compete in. The ABA League has been floated as a potential option, adding another layer of complexity. The most pressing concern is the future of the EuroLeague itself. With the league's contract with IMG set to expire in 2025, there is tons of uncertainty. Teams like CSKA Moscow and Maccabi Tel Aviv, with their stake in the league's ownership, are understandably nervous about what comes next. For Dubai, this is a strategic move with far-reaching implications. This could reshape the landscape of European basketball. Decisions are expected as early as today, with several teams still on the fence. The hesitancy stems from geographical and political issues along with the overwhelming topic of money. If this deal goes through, expect big name NBA veterans to end up in Dubai, following the path of Christiano Ronaldo. 🇱🇻 🇱🇹 🇪🇪 Baltic League could and should become the first cross-border football league in Europe. Years ago Baltic League already existed and no matter what many “experts” say, it was a positive experience for clubs, federations and also fans. First season final was sold out when Skonto played in Riga against Kaunas. Unfortunately support from governing bodies was not there and the project collapsed at the end due to different reasons. It is obvious that countries like Latvia with a market of 1.8m are not capable to compete with even middle scale leagues attracting international viewers, partners and fans. Our clubs are lacking international experience as well: only two times LV clubs qualified for UCC group stage since 1991. Competition structure, that is offered to Baltic clubs, is not killing the local rivalry as well, as the first two rounds will be played within existing local Leagues. For now Latvia is a project locomotive. Hope clubs in LTU and EST will hop on board and will challenge NAs to start the discussion.
