Reporting in today's New York Times print edition serves as a sobering reminder of the state of America's electrical infrastructure, highlighting the increasing risk of utility-caused wildfires across the nation, not just in #California. America's electric grids are built for a bygone era and struggle to cope with today's demands. This calls for urgent investment in modernizing our energy infrastructure to withstand the new climate reality. Public-private partnerships can play a crucial role here, offering innovative solutions and the necessary funding to revamp our electrical systems. The stakes couldn't be higher, with the safety of our communities and the reliability of our energy supply at risk. Embracing AI and other technological advancements will also be pivotal in making our energy systems more efficient and resilient against future challenges. Let's advocate for substantial investments and smart partnerships to safeguard our future. 🔌🌲 https://lnkd.in/gpr6yeid #EnergyInfrastructure #PublicPrivatePartnership #ClimateChange #BigRentz

Grid resiliency has been a consistent theme here at CERAWeek. With increasing demand, aging infrastructure and more severe weather, utilities are making major capital allocations to hardening the grid.
Great discussion Ben Wilson at #CERAweek #CWAgora on making electric grids resilient to climate change. Utilities are taking action to increase resiliency, such as building and strengthening the grid with composite poles from RS Technologies Inc. These innovative poles provide increased resiliency at scale for a sustainable future. #resilientgrid #sustainability

Yesterday’s weather took a dramatic turn across Europe. It was fueled by an upper-level low over the Atlantic that extended southeast, drawing moisture from the warm Mediterranean. This system triggered powerful thunderstorms from northern Italy to the borders of Belgium and the Netherlands. 🌧️ Intense Rainfall: Up to 230 mm of rain in just 24 hours in Piedmont, northern Italy, leading to flash floods and landslides. The Saas Valley became isolated as landslides blocked the roads, leaving helicopter access as the only option. ⚡ Thunderstorm Activity: Thunderstorms moved northwards throughout the day, battering regions from southern Switzerland to southwest Germany and then onto the Belgian-Dutch border by evening. 💨 Wind Energy Impacts: A sharp wind gradient influenced wind energy production, with varying impacts on different sides of the thunderstorm front. While some regions saw a drop in wind generation due to calm conditions behind the storm, others experienced a surge in wind speeds that bolstered energy output. Energy Market Impact: The severe weather conditions notably impacted energy markets. The varying wind patterns led to fluctuating wind energy generation, complicating grid management and pricing dynamics. High wind speeds boosted generation in some areas, creating a temporary surplus, while calm conditions elsewhere reduced output, highlighting the importance of accurate, high-resolution weather forecasting for energy traders. Our advanced forecasting models, including the FourCastNet and GraphCast AI integrations, provide up to 20-day forecasts in less than a minute, offering critical lead time for energy market participants to adapt their strategies. With Meteomatics’ 90-meter downscaling, we ensure localized, highly accurate data to keep you ahead of the curve. Stay informed, stay prepared, and leverage weather intelligence to optimize your operations! #WeatherImpact #EnergyMarkets #WeatherAPI #WindEnergy #WeatherIntelligence #MetX
