Downing Renewable Developments is developing major renewable energy projects through the Development Consent Order (DCO) process. What is the DCO process? The DCO process is a specific regime that applies to major infrastructure projects. This can apply to infrastructure projects in sectors ranging from transport, water, waste and of course, energy. For energy generation projects in England, this means projects that are capable of exporting 50MW or more to the grid. David Vernon, who recently joined Downing to lead the planning process for our pipeline of projects with National Significance, offers insights into how the DCO shapes our diverse portfolio of solar projects. Today’s RESS 4 auction results mark another important win for both the solar and wind industries in Ireland! The 959.84MW of solar capacity awarded today is almost double what was awarded in last year's auction. Those projects can produce enough electricity to power more than 220k homes. At a macro level, the four RESS auctions have allocated 3.7 GW of solar capacity. Leaving aside discussion of projects' final routes to market, it shows how important this policy has been in stimulating the growth of solar. That volume equates to 69% of the Government's 2030 utility scale solar target suggesting that with concerted delivery, that target is achievable. The challenge ahead is clear: we must now ensure that grid infrastructure is developed at the pace needed to support these projects and connect green energy to homes and businesses across the country. I am confident that with the support of the Accelerating Renewable Electricity Taskforce, we can tackle these hurdles, focusing on both cost competitiveness and efficiency in project delivery. The future is a decarbonised system substantially powered by solar, wind and storage. Congratulations to all the successful solar and wind bidders—your hard work is shaping the future of Ireland’s energy landscape! A special shoutout to our friends at Wind Energy Ireland and their member companies. Together, we are driving the energy transition and making great strides toward a sustainable future. 🌍 Join us at Solar Ireland 2024: Road to 2030. Let’s keep the momentum going and ensure that Ireland gets on track to meet its climate and energy targets! #SolarEnergy #WindEnergy #RenewableEnergy #RESS4 #ClimateAction #GridInfrastructure #EnergyTransition #Sustainability

Mayor, City of Salem, Massachusetts (Personal account. Content does not purport to exercise the authority of the state. For official content, follow City of Salem social media accounts.)
This week I approved a municipal electricity supply contract for #SalemMA with a rate 33% lower than National Grid’s and that will double the share of extra Massachusetts Class 1 Renewable Energy we use, so our total amount of Massachusetts renewables will be close to 37%. We still have work to do to meet our short- and long-term emissions reductions goals, but this gets us a very large step closer.

In 2019, Foresight Energy Infrastructure Partners made their first investment into Skaftåsen Windfarm. Fast forward five years, and it’s now a 231MW fully operational project, featuring 35 of the world's largest wind turbines. These turbines will produce over 530,000 MW hours of renewable energy annually - enough to power 173,000 homes, or in this case, support green industry in the Härjedalen municipality of Central Sweden. Watch the video below to hear FEIP Co-Managers Dan Wells and Richard Thompson discuss the project in more detail. #EnergyTransition #Wind #GreenIndustry #Infrastructure #Investing
