What a great organization helping another great organization
St. Claire HealthCare is pleased to support local organizations with similar missions. On Monday, SCH President/CEO Donald H. Lloyd, II, and Mindy Highley, SCH Executive Director of Community Engagement and Philanthropy presented a $50,000 check to Bev Gilliam, Director of the Rowan County Christian Social Services to allow that organization to better address community needs. “St. Claire is honored to help organizations who share a vision of bettering the lives of the people of eastern Kentucky,” said Lloyd. “There is a tremendous need for the services provided by Christian Social Services in Rowan County and they are making a difference in our community every single day.”

It's interesting to see what happens when you speak out. In this case, it’s an invitation via Tim Eby to join the board at the St. Louis Civic Pride Foundation and the honor that comes with serving. The Foundation is an education non-profit, part of Explore St. Louis, our local convention and tourism bureau. The mission: to energize St. Louisans to support their community. Here’s where I editorialize. This is an example of passion + need = opportunity. I'm passionate and vocal that each of us needs to SHOW UP to improve the cities we live in, for ourselves and the generations to come. And my home town, which has so much potential and resources, also has many challenges. Improving civic pride is one of dozens of things needed to address those challenges. Which leads to opportunty: when someone comes knocking, asking for help, in my experience you find a way to help. Bottom line: just say yes! I’m excited to join my fellow board members, roll up my sleeves and get to work!

Greatful to serve as the Board Chair for such an active and involved “community profit” company called Pro-Se Potential. One of our community outreach events was featured on the Back to Besa show with FOX news capture by the ever active Converge Media Team. Check it out in the link below. Our mission is to help our youth outperform their current environments. While we have a wide reach a majority of our children and families exist in King and Pierce Counties. If you want to get involved we have a Gala coming up November 2nd. Contact me for details. How do we heal a nation? Listen to the needs of the states. How do we heal the states? Listen to the needs of the counties And the counties? Listen to the needs of the cities And how do we heal the cities? Listen to the needs of the families. And how do we shape a better future? Listen to needs of the children and serve. https://lnkd.in/dgSxPkVX

The Solidarity Collaborative’s work will draw from and build upon existing efforts of leaders and organizations at the forefront of solidarity work, offering inspiring examples of what is possible with greater intentionality around and investment in robust solidarity efforts. These examples include a series of cross-community Solidarity Summits, dedicated to fostering and supporting solidarity among social justice communities, where leaders such as Judith Browne Dianis were able to come together and share in their experiences. In our recent case study, Dianis, Executive Director of the Advancement Project, shares about how Solidarity Summits offered the unique opportunity to learn about movement building and resource sharing alongside fellow social justice philanthropic leaders. Celebrating Black Philanthropy Month: A Call to Action August is Black Philanthropy Month, a time to honor and elevate Black philanthropy throughout history and today. It's a moment to recognize the impact of giving within Black communities and explore meaningful ways to support causes that make a difference. I might be biased, but Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS)/USA is a powerful way to celebrate and contribute! JRS is dedicated to serving refugees and displaced people globally, with a strong focus on Africa. Programs provide emergency assistance, healthcare, mental health and psychosocial support services, education, and livelihoods training to those in need, embodying the spirit of compassionate and impactful philanthropy. Here’s how supporting JRS aligns with the goals of Black Philanthropy Month: ♥ Global Impact: JRS’s work directly benefits communities in 58 countries by providing essential services and support to those displaced by conflict and crisis. ♥ Empowerment Through Education: JRS educational programs offer refugee children and adults a lifeline, giving them the tools to rebuild their lives and create brighter futures. ♥ Commitment to Human Dignity: JRS’s approach is rooted in the belief that everyone deserves respect and a chance to thrive, reflecting the values of equity and justice central to Black philanthropy. Let’s celebrate by making a meaningful impact by supporting JRS’s initiatives in Africa through the gift of education, advocacy, volunteering, or spreading the word about JRS’s impactful work. https://lnkd.in/ehcVnig3

OUT NOW: On our latest episode (the last before we take a break over the summer) we have a fascinating conversation about how to understand and measure generosity around the world, with Pamala Wiepking, Stead Family Chair in International Philanthropy at Indiana University Lilly Family School of Philanthropy. https://lnkd.in/eGRHGzat Including: -Is “philanthropy” a helpful word in a global context? -Is there any danger that if we broaden our definitions of generosity too far in our efforts to make them more universal, they lose meaning? -Is the role of philanthropy academics simply to observe and analyse giving and generosity, or to encourage it? -Are we in the midst of a "generosity crisis", or is the apparent decline in giving in places like the US, the UK and the Netherlands merely a reflection of the fact that the way we measure generosity has failed to evolve in step with how people actually choose to give?

Across PWF’s nine jurisdictions, there have been both significant steps forward and troubling steps back in the fight to catalyze a transformative approach to justice that is community-led, restorative, and racially just. The ebb and flow may slow us down. It may cause us to regroup. But it doesn’t stop our march onward. #Philanthropy #CommunityInvestment #Community #RestorativeJustice #TransformativeJustice
