If the construction industry is going to attract new talent to the market, its definitely got to get on the ball about outreach and engagement. This can be done through a variety of ways, one being collaboration with schools and colleges. I remember when I was in middle and high school, they had shop class that I took every semester. I was able to learn some basic skills of carpentry that I still apply today (on a much smaller scale compared to yall). Second, we as an industry really need to highlight how bad ass it is to work in construction. Who else builds such amazing buildings that we all use every day. Not to mention, the construction industry provides competitive salary, benefits and the success of a job well done at the end of the day. What are some other ways we can get our younger generation or those looking to transition into the Construction industry interested?

I guess the biggest challenge is the stereotype of what an Executive Assistant is and does. Business support roles have significantly evolved beyond the ‘secretary’ stereotype of long ago, but society at large hasn’t kept up and still has outdated and inaccurate perceptions about the industry and the people in it. A: I have been working in the world of construction for almost 6 years. Q: What do you like/enjoy about the field? A: I like the teamwork and the fact that no 2 days are ever the same. Q: What is one of your favorite things to do on your weekends/ day off? A: I can’t choose just one. I love to be creative and active on my days off. It is also a great way to spend time with my friends and family. Some of my favorite activities are; Improv, pickle ball, dancing, ping pong, bike riding and escape rooms. Q:If you had a super power, what would it be? A: This is an easy one, teleportation. I would love to be able to travel to any destination in the blink of an eye. Q: What’s your guilty pleasure song? A: “Simply the Best” by Tina Turner. I blame Schitt’s Creek for that. Q: What is the worst fashion decision you ever made? Do you have pictures? A: I had a pretty unfortunate perm in elementary school. Reflecting on a recent conversation between David Broom and Greg Bloom has reminded me of the unique and often unexpected paths that lead us into the roofing industry. David mentioned his father, who worked in the roofing industry for over four decades, and how, despite speaking fondly about it, he initially had no interest in joining the field. "It's not glamorous," as Greg aptly put it. Greg picked up the conversation, sharing his own journey. He took a summer job with Allied Building Products Corp., initially seeing it as just a temporary gig. This summer job, between his junior and senior years in college, involved hard labor—loading roofs, cleaning warehouses, and learning the ropes of the roofing supply business. Greg's journey, from these humble beginnings to becoming a key figure in the industry, is truly inspiring. It highlights how roofing, while not always glamorous from the outside, offers incredible opportunities for growth and development once you're inside. The industry is built on hard work, dedication, and the willingness to seize unexpected opportunities. For anyone considering a career in roofing, or for those already in the industry, Greg's story serves as a powerful reminder of the potential that lies within our field. It's about more than just the physical labor—it's about the people, the community, and the chance to build something lasting.
