Yesterday was a proud moment for us at the Collaborative Centre, as we launched Victoria’s first Translational Research Strategy 2024-2027. On average, it takes 17 years for research findings to be translated into improved treatment, care, and support for people accessing our mental health and wellbeing services. Our Translational Research Strategy 2024-2027 will address this gap by embedding collaboration between researchers, mental health practitioners and people with lived and living experiences in the locations where care is provided, to improve outcomes for consumers, carers, family, supporters and kin. The ambition of our strategy is deeply human-centred, informed by the voices of people with lived and living experiences to guide us towards the solutions we need. Our strategy was launched by Ingrid Stitt MP, Minister for Mental Health, who spoke about the role of the Collaborative Centre as an ‘engine room’ for system transformation. A heartfelt thank you to the many hundreds of contributors who helped shape this strategy and who will be instrumental in driving real, lasting, and positive change for Victorians. In 2024, many men feel uncomfortable with harmful ideas about what it means to be a man. But the pressure to act tough, be a provider, and comply with heteronormativity are just some of the ‘rules’ men in Australia are still told to follow. These harmful ideas about masculinity enable the culture of gender-based violence. While not all men use violence, bringing them into the conversation on how to end it is critical. Respect Victoria’s new report, 𝘞𝘪𝘭𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘨, 𝘤𝘢𝘱𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘦, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘧𝘪𝘥𝘦𝘯𝘵: 𝘮𝘦𝘯, 𝘮𝘢𝘴𝘤𝘶𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘦𝘴, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘰𝘧 𝘷𝘪𝘰𝘭𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘢𝘨𝘢𝘪𝘯𝘴𝘵 𝘸𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘯, explores how we can better engage men in preventing violence. This is the second report published from The Man Box 2024, a study led by The Men’s Project at Jesuit Social Services, and conducted in partnership with Respect Victoria. The report is a deep dive into how men experience and navigate harmful expressions of masculinity.   𝘞𝘪𝘭𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘨, 𝘤𝘢𝘱𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘧𝘪𝘥𝘦𝘯𝘵 is a contribution to the collective efforts of practitioners and policymakers working with men to prevent violence against women and other forms of gender-based violence. On Friday we're launching our new report 'Willing, capable and confident: men, masculinities and the prevention of violence against women.' Tickets are still available for both the in-person event at The Wheeler Centre and the online stream. 'Willing, capable and confident' is the second report published from The Man Box 2024, a study led by The Men’s Project at Jesuit Social Services, and conducted in partnership with Respect Victoria. It explores how men conform to, navigate, or challenge the Man Box ‘rules,’ and identifies opportunities to build their willingness, capacity and confidence to resist harmful expressions of masculinity. You are invited to the launch of Rainbow Health Australia’s new 'Pride in Prevention Evaluation Guide: A guide for evaluation to support primary prevention of family violence experienced by LGBTIQ communities'. Date: Thursday 22 August 2024  Time: 10:30am-12:00pm AEST Location: Online - Zoom webinar Event page: https://lnkd.in/ekwEzbBF This guide builds on the Pride in Prevention Evidence Guide, which draws together existing research and policy frameworks and puts forward a conceptual model for understanding LGBTIQ experiences of family violence, along with priority actions for primary prevention. Additional practice guides on messaging and partnerships outline further principles, processes and practices required for effective primary prevention of family violence experienced by LGBTIQ communities. The Pride in Prevention Evaluation Guide builds further on this work, this time focusing attention on evaluation – valuing the work that is done, sharing successes and lessons learned, and growing primary prevention expertise and capacity together. It draws on expertise in evaluation from within and outside of the sectors engaged with primary prevention of family violence experienced by LGBTIQ communities. This includes the experience of evaluating the first phase of Rainbow Health Australia’s LGBTIQ Family Violence Prevention Project, which resulted in Pride in Prevention and the application of its conceptual model and priority actions by three Victorian partner organisations: Thorne Harbour Health, Zoe Belle Gender Collective, and Safe and Equal. It has been produced by the LGBTIQ Family Violence Prevention Project, a world-leading project led by Rainbow Health Australia and funded by Family Safety Victoria. The launch will be held online and will include a panel conversation with experts in primary prevention programming and evaluation exploring the principles that inform the guide, and how it can be used to develop the mindset and skills to guide effective evaluation.
