When I led marketing for BlueJeans by Verizon,I really focused on the team culture & ways to help them enjoy their day - especially when we were remote 100%. Here’s the thing 👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻 More often than not, marketing sets the tone for the culture of the entire company. So it's important, as marketing leaders, that we lean into ways that empower our teams to have fun. Ways that make it not just collaborative & happy but energizes the team, gets them pumped about the work, who they are doing it with, & the brand that they represent. Here’s my list of some of the things I did to help my team feel that way. 💡 ✅ Put the agenda & formality aside to give a platform for relationship building. Make the process fun. Enlist other groups to help with the event planning, get them engaged in your campaigns before launch, bring them in on things that they typically wouldn’t be. I found it built tremendous team spirit, encouraged cross-org partnership, & allowed everyone to think creatively. ✅ Empower your team with the decision making. As leaders it is our job to nurture our teams - tap into their strengths & build up their areas of curiosity. But we also must give them the room & the independence that they need to feel ownership & accountability while always at their side. I backed off, gave my team members the space to decide the most enjoyable activities & plan our get togethers. After all, they are the ones with the strongest finger on the pulse of the culture. ✅ Quarterly/semi-annual kick-off meetings in person. We leaned into the culture by planning & face to face & big launch events. It brought pride to the organization, & most importantly, our team for the work they did to make that moment happen. Pro tip for those that attend trade shows or lead brand events - Take it one step further with an on-site pre-show kick-off. It brings people together who typically aren’t & builds massive camaraderie prior. ✅ Create time for your team to share who they are. I began every weekly staff meeting & each of my 1:1s w/ “share something new with you outside of work”. It helped get to know each other. Some talk, some share pictures, or bring their family members/pets on camera. Chris Lewter our CEO, would often put people in the “Hot Seat” or ask to share something that we would never know about a person. It was a massive culture enabler & allowed us to get to know each other much more informally. It ALWAYS inspired great conversation and deeper understanding of each other. Don’t sweat it though. We don’t always have to be the source of the fun - we just have to support it. In a prior role, my team started a “Wednesday Night Social Club” where at least 2 Wednesday per month they would get together after work to do something fun together. I didn’t reinforce it for them, but I supported it by not taking away from their time together. I’m curious to hear of ways that you enable culture with your team. 🧠 I've been Interim Marketing Manager for two months now, and I've learned the following 6️⃣ things (and more!): 1) Never be too busy for the 'quick catch up' with individuals, they end up being the most valuable time ☕ 2) Don't work through your lunches and/or work late - when you do, it's a slippery slope to burnout 🙏 3) You won't get it right all the time - this applies to any role but particularly important to remember in a role where people are relying on you! 😨 4) Remember your customer and who sets your targets - you won't keep everyone happy and remembering the point of your role helps clarify your priorities 👩🏫 5) It's good to get advice from lots of different places - but you don't have to take it 🤠 6) Just because it's hard now - doesn't mean it will always be difficult - you can do it, you can do anything if you're motivated 💪 Photo by Clay Banks on Unsplash

After launching Amplify Marketing Pro last year, I've taken a significant step: moving from behind-the-scenes work to a front-facing role. This transition has been a big shift for me, both personally and professionally, as it involved overcoming a longstanding fear of visibility after more than 15 years in the industry. Interestingly, this very challenge led to a delayed start in establishing the business's social media presence, going against the very advice I often extend to my clients. As the face of Amplify Marketing Pro, I'm now focused on building connections and sharing practical insights that can help both my growth and yours. It's a process that I'm still navigating, and I'm open to honest conversations about the challenges and rewards that come with increased visibility in the professional world. For a long time my bio has read - “New York based experiential marketing professional and live event producer with an industry proven approach to conceptualization, sale, and execution of newsworthy and award winning branded activations, earned media events, and content programming. Above all things, I believe in the power of people” And that’s accurate. But it isn't getting me the results I want.  It’s actually doing the opposite. Somehow, I’ve become trapped in a loop of half offers, rug pull promises, and overall depressing experiences with C-Suite “operators” that couldn’t find the tickle switch on a Nerf gun. So after a couple years of solicitations from time wasting recruiters, getting swept due to agency identity politics headed by mismanaged executive teams, and an overall disappointment with how work is structured (prioritizing billable hours over results through embracing inefficiency), I’d prefer to just say this - If you want me to make time to meet you, build you sample decks, and endure you pushing scheduled calendar meetings repeatedly before expecting a friendly smile and “aww shucks” when you tell me your org is “solving from inside” .. find a short pier and take a long walk. If you’re done passing the buck around, if you have a budget, a timeline, and an idea - or at least have wherewithal to understand what you don’t know but know you need to.. call me. This city (and the world) is filled with posers, and I’m not here to get my picture taken. I’m here to build things that make life a little more exciting, if only for a moment; to tether brands to the consumers they serve through (tangible) story telling that inspires emotional and cognitive response through the magic of sensory design.
