Text Books keep pictures of old practice for years. Marketing material from industry reaches future clinicians at scale, multiple times. Sounds like a small and silly thing to be concerned about, but if the result of poor technique and practice is bombarding the next generation as status quo, how can we expect them to improve practice for our patients. As a tissue viability nurse, it was particularly great to see the health care support workers really take ownership of this. We have supported the Advancing the Surgical Workforce: 2023 UK Surgical Workforce Census Report, published by The Royal College of Surgeons of England. The report highlights the difficult conditions the surgical workforce continues to face, the serious impact this has on staff wellbeing and the potential risk to patient safety. We must collaborate across the sector to protect our surgical teams, increasing and developing training opportunities, ensuring conditions that support staff wellbeing and retention, and expanding both theatre access and the workforce to help tackle waiting lists.
