I often highlight the difficult job lawyers undertake and the conditions in which they work. This is a striking example. On the original post the majority of reactions were highly critical of this article. They pointed to other areas that aren't being dealt with, other failings and shameful publicity. Now think of it from the lawyers position. They are constantly overworked in a broken legal system, labelled fat cats, often blamed merely for doing their job and now after horrific riots the criminal lawyers have a massive workload dropped on them that suddenly takes priority (rightly so as it seems to have put a quick end to the riots). Let's not forget that many lawyers were under threat from the rioters set to target "woke" lawyers for defending "illegals" - criticism that came from the last government. Imagine if your job was open to such criticism and massive workloads with no end in sight, having to work all hours to meet this new challenge. We should all applaud our lawyers and the legal system, it is what safeguards our rights and keeps us safe. In a pilot study we found that incarcerated individuals who participate in our programs demonstrate more peaceful behavior, parole more successfully, are integrate into society and communities more effectively. In addition to that, those who are currently incarcerated are better prepared to collaborate effectively with prison staff, creating a safer environment for all. EAST COAST MEETS WEST COAST Yesterday, we were pleased to host several members of the Seattle Police Department at the Cobb County Police Department's Real Time Crime Center. We discussed leveraging technology to foster public-private partnerships aimed at enhancing public safety. Our conversation included citing some recent success stories achieved through our established network of analytical and communication tools. Equipping a capable staff with these tools ensures that any RTCC can be situated for success! The Seattle Police Department shares our initiative in focusing on a proactive approach to law enforcement. Our discussions also touched on the importance of transparency and community engagement, as well as the nuances between an investigative-focused RTCC and a patrol-response-focused RTCC (🕵️♂️/👮♂️). We applaud these forward-thinking initiatives as they align with our shared commitment to serving the community. This webinar brings together experts from the fields of restorative and juvenile justice to review the current state of research and use of restorative justice practices and credible messengers with youth at risk for or involved with the juvenile justice system. As jurisdictions seek to address growing concerns about youth crime and violence, there is increased interest in adopting innovative programs and practices that can hold youth accountable for their behavior while also improving public safety and youth outcomes such as education and behavioral health. Simultaneously, the fact that many locales are struggling with unprecedented staffing challenges within their public agencies and private service providers has increased the urgency to identify creative, effective interventions that are less staff and cost intensive. To this end, the University of Cincinnati Corrections Institute conducted a comprehensive review of rigorous research-including over 30 research studies from 2000 to 2023-on restorative justice and credible messenger practices, two types of grassroots interventions that are growing in popularity and have shown promising outcomes for youth, victims, and communities. This webinar will include information from a brief about this research and lift up promising programs from across the country.

Interesting to think that while we are talking about real time crime centers, data aggregation, tech, and even moving forward with text and video to 9-1-1, there was part of one of the largest States which was without access to this emergency number which many of us take for granted.
