I remember a time when some Police Departments and Police Chiefs held strong beliefs against hiring bonuses. One Chief shared his philosophy, “I will not get into a bidding war for anyone, they either want to work here or not.” With the recruitment and retention crisis Law Enforcement nationwide, no Law Enforcement Agency today can remain competitive in recruiting without a hiring bonus. Yes, there are going to be ramifications and issues that arise from ever growing hiring bonuses. Some of this problems may be: 1) Free agent officers that bounce from one agency to another to collect hiring bonuses. 2) The creation of an atmosphere of have and have not agencies similar to the have and have not teams in professional sports (Yankees vs. Royals). But, if agencies do not have the people to staff the patrol vehicles and 9-1-1 dispatch terminals they can not protect and serve your community so you must do whatever you can to bring the best candidates you can to you department. I wonder how much higher these bonuses will go? #police #policedepartment #officer #officer #dispatchers #dispatch #cop #cops #policechief #sheriff #lawenforcement #lawenforcementofficer #hiring #retention #copscountpolicematter #policingmatters International Association of Chiefs of Police Police Executive Research Forum Major Cities Chiefs Association FBI National Academy Associates, Inc. I wish every officer in the country had the opportunity to experience the love that was shown to us today by the students and staff at Westbrook Christian School. Oftentimes I speak with potential recruits who want to join our department, and I ask them why here, why Rainbow City. I always get two answers: 1. Because of the people that work here. 2. Because of the support from the community and administration/elected officials. Working in a community that supports law enforcement not only makes it enjoyable to come to work, but it also helps us attract great people. We have seen what an absence of support looks like from big cities across the country and people are leaving those places in droves. Crime skyrockets and the overall sense of security disappears. To our community, I cannot promise that we will always be perfect because we are human, but I can promise that we will always be seeking ways to serve you with services that go above and beyond. Exceptional service by building exceptional officers. #LawEnforcementAppreciation

Idaho's growth has brought about a pressing need for an increased law enforcement presence. The surge in population has strained local police departments, unable to fill vacancies due to budget constraints. Notably, the Idaho State Police were denied the opportunity to purchase a helicopter in the last legislative session. To maintain the high quality of life Idahoans cherish, the state must invest in hiring more law enforcement officers. This investment is crucial to ensure public safety, protect highways, and keep pace with the demands of a growing population. It seems that every new generation of Law Enforcement Officers are looked at by the Officers of earlier generations with skepticism. They aren’t as tough, they are soft, they have no life experience, the job isn’t the same, they couldn’t have handled the old days, they aren’t as good, etc. etc. This has probably been going on since the beginning of Lawl Enforcement in the United States in the 1600’s. In my mind, I can see a veteran Night Watchman in 1685 looking at a new daytime Constable and thinking, “What is this job coming to?” When the new generations come in, sometimes with thought processes and views that are different, too often we veterans are to quick to denounce them and declare the profession dead. We do this with the attitude that our own generation was never questioned or looked upon with suspicion by previous ones. Each generation, just as the individual people in them, has strengths and weakness and no matter how much we hate to admit it, things and times change and that has a major impact on the nature of Policing. However one thing that never changes no matter what the generation, is that a good Cop is brave, selfless, dedicated, committed, and willing to risk all to do what is right. Minneapolis Police Department Sergeant Jeremy Depies and Officer Ashley Bergersen actions during this rescue showed that bravery, commitment, and dedication in Policing is not dead. They are the perfect example of what Tacitus meant when he said, “In Valor There Is Hope.” #police #policeofficer #policeofficers #officer #officers #lawenforcement #lawenforcementofficer #policedepartment #policechief #cops #cop #sheriff #deputy #marshal #constable #policeman #prosecution #prosecutor #crime #criminaljustice #crimnallaw #crimes #crimnaljusticesystem #law #criminals #criminal #communitysafety #publicsatey #drugs #narcotics #copscountpolicematter #policing #policematter #policingmatters #consequences #backtheblue #accountability #accountabilitymatters #crimeprevention #lawandorder #leadership #leaders #statelaws #violentcrimes #supportpolice Minneapolis Park Police Department Police1 American Police Beat American Security Today International Association of Chiefs of Police Police Executive Research Forum National Police Chiefs' Council Police Strategy Forum California Police Chiefs Association CA Commission on POST TEEX - Institute for Law Enforcement and Protective Services National Police Association National Sheriffs' Association Law Enforcement Today National Policing Institute National Association of Women Law Enforcement Executives National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives (NOBLE) https://lnkd.in/gD_qCvZU

Headlines like this are everywhere. It's unavoidable... ❓ Is your department feeling the impacts? ❓ How are your officers impacted daily? ❓ Does morale suffer due to staffing issues? FACT: There is no one-size-fits-all approach to recruiting. But a number of us in the private sector are deeply invested in moving the needle...finding a way to drive-up applications of QUALITY candidates. Personally I believe in running your recruiting unit like a tiny and targeted marketing agency! One of our clients, The Tennessee Highway Patrol, recently saw a dramatic rise in applications and class sizes after hiring Sworn Impact Training. During our 2-day workshop we delivered customized recruiting and communications training for their team. Sure, the #LawEnforcement profession isn't for everyone, but is rewarding and meaningful for those who make it their career. Please send me a LinkedIn message if you'd like to get my take on public safety recruiting. https://lnkd.in/gCDrwW46

#InternationalWomensDay | PC Da Silva is a response officer based in Somerton, who has been in response for eight years and is looking for the next big step in her career by joining the Operations unit. “I wanted to delve into the world of Operations, and after researching all my options, my interest was piqued by a specific team. As well as being interested in the role, I wanted to contribute to the female representation of the department.” PC Da Silva first joined Avon and Somerset Police and became a front office advisor. When Police Constable vacancies became available, she was successful in applying and began her new role in March 2016. “It was challenging – at the beginning, I doubted as to whether the role was right for me. But with experience grew my love for the job, and without it I wouldn’t have explored further opportunities within the role. I became a tutor while I was based in Yeovil, and I loved teaching people at the very start of their careers. Passing on teachings that would in turn be passed on in the future was a rewarding responsibility to have. I stayed there for around five years, gaining extra skills such as pursuit driving and taser, until I decided to try a new avenue, and so I turned to rural policing.” PC Da Silva has worked in response in Somerton for three years. She is passionate about helping communities and making a difference to many people’s lives. “My favourite part of my role is that genuine feeling when you’ve helped someone and, in some cases, changed their life. When I receive a thank you email from a victim of crime that I’ve helped, I know that I’ve done something to change their circumstance or empower them to do something they once thought wasn’t possible. I’m really excited to start my journey into Operations; I was so proud to pass the assessment and be accepted to the team. It takes real courage to be part of a team that will be dealing with such a variety of jobs, and I am willing to do that.” #InspiringInclusion
