Right approach. Critical that the feds add conditions to funding to align with the objective of the funding, adding housing supply, which means breaking up regulatory gridlock. I support the policy objective below.

Is America waking up to the importance of safe secure affordable housing for its Citizens? I hope so, but in order to do this do they understand the technology that could actually make this possible.
There’s the old saying Trying to do the same thing and expecting a different outcome is a sign of stupidity, well I have to agree, but is that what’s going to happen? The advancements in construction technologies are incredible but does anyone really know how to integrate them effectively? Here on LinkedIn I have the window on the world of technology, and the pioneers that are actually trying to find out if innovations actually works,from 3d printing to advanced AI that is magical, but are these technologies really worth the effort? I believe some of them are! Industry is communicating better than ever before and with respect in their voice, we know how difficult it is to try and introduce new ways to the teams that actually do the build, their no nonsense attitude comes from years of hearing about some clever gadget that will change the lives for ever, I tried a few, and there probably sitting in the back of a lockup somewhere, as I’ve tried to block out how much it cost, and yes most of the innovations being tried are a new smoothie maker or a new air type cooker that I convinced myself I had to have. Is that the same in construction tech? Some of it is! But some of it isn’t!
Technology or products that address the fundamentals that construction especially housing face every day. I’m going to post a few examples of areas to focus and I’ve asked industry experts to comment, let’s see if this catalyst conversation makes industry think of what could be! Rather than what will never.
New Jersey leads the region in affordable housing production, mostly due to its past housing policies. Still, there's an affordable housing shortage in the Garden State.
Legislators are currently considering S50/A4 as a remedy to the shortage – and a way to speed up the housing process.

[Part 1] Recently an article I contributed to was published by the Regional Plan Association concerning the state of affordable housing in New Jersey. It gives insight to the past, present, and future of housing in New Jersey. Coincidently it was published around the same time I made available a housing guide for Jersey City concerning the recent changes in our Land Development Ordinance (see the next post)!
Originally, the CASP sought to balance job producing industrially zoned land and the conversion to residential uses. Now it appears the CASP revision are tailored toward greater flexibility toward affordable housing development. With greater residential density, you might need to stimulate the North Broadway corridor with more viable options for basic goods and services.
Hopefully, the use of under deployed CDBG funds by EWDD is more proactive and less reactive.
Over the last decade, these under deployment problems continues to plague low-moderate communities where these CDBG funds are intended assist:
📢 New Canaan has secured a critical four-year moratorium on 8-30g applications, a law permitting developers to bypass zoning restrictions for multifamily and mixed-use structures in areas with insufficient affordable housing.
While this halts new applications, ongoing projects like the Weed Street development will proceed as their developers pursue cases in state Superior Court.
