Great conversation happening now about rural communities and the challenges we face around healthcare. Cancer care and access to that care is a large part of this. This work is hard, impacts the whole community, and needs to involve cross-sectional work. One thing that I appreciate Dr. Calhoun mentioning, we need to focus on the similarities, to help address these challenges and think of innovative ideas to tackle rural healthcare. #RuralHealthcare #EastTexas #CancerAccess
Join us for a conversation about opportunities and innovations in rural health care, happening at Tyler Junior College or online Friday, Feb. 16. We’ll talk about how communities like Tyler are taking on health care challenges, how the Texas Legislature and state agencies are supporting these efforts and how the future of health care will look in rural Texas. Speakers include: • Kirk Calhoun, MD, president of UT Tyler and board chair of UT Health East Texas • Kristina Childress, senior public health official and administrator of Angelina County and Cities Health District • Doug Curran, MD, East Texas Community Clinic and former president of the Texas Medical Association. Doors will open at noon in Tyler for lunch and the hourlong conversation will begin at 12:30 p.m. RSVP today: https://trib.it/HIR

The impact of health equity in Milwaukee is significant in determining a person’s quality of life and well-being. Milwaukee has some of the largest disparities between its Black and white residents in several categories, including infant mortality, blood-lead levels, and life expectancy. Organizations are working together to address these issues, but what more can and should be done to ensure all can lead a healthy and fulfilling life? Lubar Center Director Derek Mosley will lead a conversation with panelists Secretary-designee Kirsten Johnson, Wisconsin Department of Health Services, and from the Medical College of Wisconsin Dr. Mark Lodes, Chief Medical Officer for Population Health and Medical Education, and Dr. C. Greer Jordan, Institute for Health Equity. The program will begin promptly at 12:15 p.m. in Eckstein Hall. A light lunch will be available. Research shows that positive self-talk can improve self-esteem, stress management and wellbeing - even for our kiddos. See these great tips from one of our #Mohawkmedbuy Members' Paediatric Healthy Living Program. #MentalHealth #Anxiety #HealthyLiving
It is hard for children to try something new when they are afraid of failing. Teaching your child that it is okay to make mistakes can provide your child the opportunity to try a new challenge and build their confidence. Helping your child to understand that it is the effort they put in to trying something new or different that is important rather than the final result. Encourage your child to change their self-talk from “I can’t do that, I quit” to “I can’t do that YET — but with practice I’ll get there”.
