How do Disability Employment Professionals (DEPs) support persons with disabilities? DEPs bridge the gap between persons with disabilities and employers – providing career guidance to persons with disabilities, assisting them in workplace integration, and connecting inclusive employers with the resources they need. As the ecosystem builder for disability-inclusive employment, we build up the capabilities of DEPs by supporting them with training and resources. Barriers to employment are often more than just challenges for an individual job seeker. Transportation is a common, persistent barrier for folks impacting everything from work opportunities to standards of living. It is also a prime example of when adequately addressed, entire communities benefit! In recent months, transportation improvements and road safety initiatives have become more prominent in local news headlines. Projects to improve pedestrian experiences and transit lines across Denver are underway, yet many articles leave out the experiences of people with disabilities who rely on public transit.
