"People across our state continue to feel the positive impact in their lives with access to affordable health care coverage,” said Governor Roy Cooper. “They can now see a doctor, get preventative care, manage chronic conditions and get life-saving prescriptions without the burden of high premiums or co-pays. The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services along with the many community partners supporting enrollment efforts have done a remarkable job to reach half a million North Carolinians in such a short amount of time, and we’ll keep working to enroll more people. ” https://lnkd.in/eD8ybNdm

In their new Forefront article, Nancy Archibald and Molly Knowles from The Center for Health Care Services ask how effective are integrated models in providing the care coordination that full-benefit dually eligible individuals need, and how can states improve in this area? "More than nine million people are fully eligible for both Medicare and Medicaid benefits. These individuals must navigate two systems of care with different benefit structures, provider networks, cost structures, and administrative rules and policies. This complexity would be difficult for anyone, but full-benefit dually eligible individuals also often have multiple chronic physical and behavioral health conditions, functional limitations, and social support needs, not to mention lower levels of health literacy and language barriers, that make the task all the more challenging." On a mission to improve the member and patient experience | Sales Leader | Licensed Insurance Agent-Health, Life, P & C | Medicare SME | ISSA Certified Personal Trainer | Fitness Enthusiast
I was born and raised in Pennsylvania but I now call North Carolina home. As I have come to learn about the geography of North Carolina, I learned in many ways the two states are very similar. Both have a few large cities but beyond that they are very rural. I traveled much of Pennsylvania in my career-I would often find there was a lack of access to broadband internet, a lack of access to healthy foods, a lack of public transportation and a lack of access to healthcare. The same holds true for North Carolina and many other states across the country. As we are seeing more and more rural hospitals and healthcare facilities closing it is creating greater health care deserts. According to the NIH website "Studies have found that rural Americans are more likely to die prematurely from the leading causes of death in the U.S. These include heart disease, cancer, lung disease, and stroke. They have higher rates of obesity and diabetes. And they’re at greater risk of fatal car crashes, suicide, and drug overdoses." Rural communities also have more older adults and therefore more chronic conditions. Approximately 20% of Americans live in rural parts of the country. Last week at the AHIP 2024 Medicare, Medicaid, Duals and Commercial Markets Forum there was a lot of focus on Health Equity. Remote Patient Monitoring and Virtual care solutions, when implemented properly, can help address some of the challenges these communities are facing. One of the reasons I joined AMC Health was because I saw how our solution can remove many of the barriers that underserved communities are experiencing. #ruralhealth #ahip #healthequity #medicaid #medicare #healthcaredeserts #remotepatientmonitoring #virtualcare #healthplans

State Medicaid offices target dead people's homes to recoup their health care costs Some states will put a lien - a legal right - on a home while others don't. Meanwhile, some Medicaid offices try to recoup all medical costs from patients, like doctor visits or prescriptions, while others just pursue the costs for long-term care. Alaska and Arizona pursued just dozens of properties in recent years while other states go after thousands of homes, totaling hundreds of millions of dollars. #StateMedicaidoffices | #Healthcarecosts | #Medicalcostsfrompatients | #HealthandHumanServices | #Healthnews Read more:

One of the biggest challenges to improving care for low-income older adults and folks with disabilities who are dual eligible for both Medicare and Medicaid is that the programs, policies, and delivery systems simply don’t talk to one another. So we are pleased to partner with @PennLDI & @Health_Affairs to bring together people who are dually eligible, providers, researchers, and policymakers to share their experiences and ideas for making care more patient-centered and affordable.
