𝗔 𝗦𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗠𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲, 𝗔 𝗠𝗮𝗷𝗼𝗿 𝗦𝗲𝘁𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸 😣 A young lawyer was preparing for an important trial, and she spent countless hours reviewing her case materials, feeling assured that she had left no stone unturned. As she walked into the courtroom, a sense of certainty filled her being as she scanned her notes one last time. Little did she know, a small yet significant typo had slipped through her radar, waiting to be exploited by the opposing lawyer. As the trial progressed, the opposing lawyer pounced on the typo, using it to discredit the young lawyer’s case. The lawyer was mortified, realizing that her confidence had been her downfall. The error, while seemingly insignificant, had the potential to change the outcome of the trial. The young lawyer learned a valuable lesson that day about the importance of proofreading and editing. She decided to never make the same mistake again, From that day on, the young lawyer made it a habit to hire a proofreader and editor for every important case she worked on. Law students (or anyone else to whom this advice may apply), Before you hit send on an email, try letting it sit for a while. I wrote a decent email regarding some research to my boss yesterday and was about to hit send. Then I thought, "Let this sit and send it in the morning." I'm glad I did because what I wrote was okay, but rewriting it this morning improved it significantly. I could better communicate what I had found because I saw it with fresh eyes. Thankfully, the research wasn't due yesterday, and I could let it sit, but letting your writing sit for a day, or even a few hours, before rewriting it again can prove exceptionally beneficial. #lawstudents #lawyer #legalwriting #email #editing #1L #2L #3L
