European Parliament DG COMM | Specialising in Political Communication, Politics and Media in the European sphere
On June 6-9, European citizens will head to their voting stations to choose their representatives in the European Parliament. Together, we will decide the future of the European Union. These elections come at a time when the world is facing immense challenges. The return of war, the increase of poverty, a climate which is sick and which we seem intent on making sicker, and increased radicalisation on all flanks of our politcal world. Bad news seems never-ending. This is exactly why it is so important that everyone use their votes! Rather than feeling hopeless and disarmed by our developing tragedy and giving in to the apathetic urge to disconnect, we should embrace the challenge and speak out for the future we want! Democracy is difficult. It requires a willingness to listen to others, to face that the world is complex, and to understand that compromise is not a bad thing, but the only thing that can make us happy in the long run. Certainly, it requires more strength and character than giving in to a loud man’s simple explanations of the world, which seem to confirm your biases and fears. Voting in the European elections is not a vote for or against the EU. It is our main way of expressing what we think is important, what we think our main problems are, what we think the solutions should be, and most importantly who we think will best fight for our ideals in negotiations about legislation that will impact our and our childrens’ future. My call to action therefore is this: USE YOUR VOTE! Stay informed about what’s going on in Europe, and in the world. Answer for yourself how you think your future should look. Listen to those who think the same, but also to those who think otherwise. Democracy is voting, sure, but far more than that it is a seat at the table of important discussions going on all the time, about your future. Would you want others discussing and deciding about you without saying your piece? I would not. So go, engage with your democratic rights. Be angry, be hopeful, be whatever you want to be. But please, vote. Our future depends on it. #UseYourVote #europeanelections

I enjoyed yesterday's spirited debate about #thefutureofinternalcomms sponsored by the Centre For Strategic Communication Excellence. While clearly there *is* a future, I took the provocative position that it has evolved into an organizational capability rather than a functional discipline / role. My perspective is that with advances in communication tools, L&D platforms, better performance management & development approaches, behavioral science, and increasing overlap and need for cooperation among business functions and domains -- IC should really baked into the day-to-day operations of the business. I proposed that what is really needed is a highly-skilled, discipline-agnostic Chief Culture Officer who understands the business, has the ear of the C-suite and knows where they are taking the business, and knows enough about change, marketing, communication, HR, finance and ops to prioritize what matters -- and what doesn't -- to act as an orchestrator / coordinator. - Of course you need content and channel management - Of course you need to listen relentlessly - Of course you need marketing and comms skillsets - But these capabilities do not need to live in the IC function I was being deliberately hyperbolic, but this would be a smarter way to connect #EX to #CX and accelerate change, performance and engagement https://lnkd.in/gTsXSwzu Let's continue the conversation. #internalcomms #culture #change #transformation
Is there a future for #InternalComms? The debate is over - participants in the online poll at the conclusion of the fourth #WeLeadComms debate responded "yes" with literally 100% of the vote. But the conversation that led up to that vote was say, a little "spicy." This is not a party political broadcast…but just in case you forgot it’s polling day! The manifestos (or contracts) have been read, the TV & radio debates listened to and now it’s time for us all to decide who will be our governing party over the next 5 years. Picking the winner of the General Election is probably slightly easier than the Euros, or even choosing your next parking provider (that answers simple) so the question many people ask is... Why bother? Why indeed! We have been voting on the General Election since 1802 with today’s being the 58th. Democracy is a part of our great institution and everyone’s vote counts and everyone’s voice should be heard. If we took the same ‘Why’ into business as if everything in life was a foregone conclusion, one would never prospect, promote, market, advertise their services if we all thought that we would never ‘win’ So believe your vote does matter and that whoever you personally choose to vote for, does have a voice for you and the people of Britain. #generalelection #yourvotematters #pollingday

Use your vote. Three simple words with a very impactful meaning. It is important to vote representatives for your interests and concerns. If you don’t vote, it’s a higher chance to win for parties that are against your interests and open a bigger path for parties which are trying to destroy democracy and harm specific groups of people. Politics needs people to function & People need Politics to live in a peaceful environment. Save the date & Use your vote!
