As we celebrate the legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr, let's remember the disadvantages still affecting people of color today and look for solutions. When it comes to energy, programs like community solar can give our brothers and sisters an even playing field. "It’s clear that protecting vulnerable communities from the perils of climate change also means that we need to reimagine our energy systems and transition from carbon-polluting fossil fuels to clean, renewable energy." In Scandinavian climate, in northern Sweden, Absolicon solar thermal is supplying heat to the district heating grid. The installation is the largest concentrating solar field for district heating in Sweden and is proving that solar thermal is a valid source of heat in a large range of climates. 🌿🍃 If legislation only creates the illusion of progress without delivering tangible results, it’s often the environment and families that bear the brunt. Not everything is as straightforward as it seems, and sometimes well-intentioned policies can have unintended negative consequences. Political campaigns and promises about environmental legislation can end up being MORE detrimental to the environment and communities than it sounds when being used to garner attention. When setting goals and creating plans, strategies must be both actionable and achievable. Otherwise, we are just wasting time and resources in a time crunch. We need policy that truly protects the environment, and supports families. 🌿🍃
