When you hire a lawyer, you're not just hiring a lawyer. What you're really hiring is a brand ambassador, business developer, client relationship manager, strategist, firefighter, project management specialist….*breathe*…. technology guru, Wing Attack in the office mixed netball team, and “provider of such other duties as may be reasonably required from time to time”, who just happens to have a law degree. A lot of the work done by in-house legal teams does not require a legal background. That's a problem in itself. When hiring, think about the skills you *actually* need someone to have, and be open to people who might have acquired them in fields outside the law. #lawyers #legalcareers #hiring
