During the Entrepreneur Of The Year® 2024 selection process, SSOE’s Vince DiPofi, PE was interviewed by EY to share his thoughts on leadership.
In this short video, he unveils some of the ways our firm is making an impact, leveraging technology, creating an increasingly inclusive and engaging culture, and advancing the industry one project at a time.
Vince was named a finalist by EY back in May and—as we announced in our press release earlier today—went on to win the Michigan and Northwest Ohio Award at the end of June.
He was among 34 impressive regional finalists evaluated on their ability to create long-term value through entrepreneurial spirit, commitment to their purpose, demonstration of growth and substantial impact, among other key indicators.
Our company is an engineering and architectural design firm. We focus primarily on industrial manufacturing across the country or one of the biggest firms in the country at designing manufacturing facilities. The industry, the reshoring of America is just exploding. And as part of that, our company has captured nearly 50% of the market on new battery plants being designed. So we're in those markets along with being in semiconductor we're #2. In the country in designing semiconductor facilities as well. So we've really made an impact across the country. We have actually a video that we show all our new employees and it's called SSOE's Impact on the World. And when you look at all the different products that our company is a part of, I mean, we do work with food companies, so breakfast cereal that people eat and food manufacturing the cars, we design car plants all over the world every day. One of our employees, they're touched by something that they've designed. Our favorite saying right now is "the road to success is always under construction." So we know what it took to get us where we're at was one thing where we need to go. We're focused on artificial intelligence and really transforming our entire industry with digital transformation. Every day something is new and it's the challenge of the market changes, the people change, everything changes. How do we look forward and anticipate the future? It's interesting, I started in this business in 1981, my entire career. I've been in the architectural engineering space and almost from the day I walked into the first company I work for and this is only the second company I've ever worked for. Now, I thought this is the perfect fit for me. And I will say literally every single day I walk into the office. I love the business. So every day I feel like yes, this was the right decision for me. I'm most proud of the way even as the companies grown, even as we've entered new markets, we've had a real focus on ESG and made it a business imperative. Our employee engagement scores are in the top ten in the country and we're really proud of the culture and how our people feel about the company. My vision for the company is designing and building the future for our clients, colleagues and communities and the fact that we've been able to have a positive impact on our clients and their business. Their employees feel great about the company and the impact we've had in our communities. I think doing all three of those is a very unique feature. I was in my mid 30s and company I was working for at the time had a seminar and one of the things they talked about was the abundance versus the scarcity mentality. The scarcity mentality was I have to have everything. I can't give anything up. The abundance mentality was there's enough for everybody. And that's really helped me grow as a leader, to delegate, to have great teams around me and know that there's enough for everybody to go around. And that's been my secret.
