LAKEWOOD CHURCH ACTIVE SHOOTER INCIDENT – February 11, 2024 Key Takeaways: 1) Acknowledging the reality that it may not be practical in a very large venue like the Lakewood Church, there is no substitute for having a trained greeter / screener in front of a locked door. A trained greeter / screener controls access to the facility and uses their training and soft interrogation skills to determine if the person in front of them belongs or is a potential threat. 2) Having armed security guards or police officers working security at your synagogue is not a panacea for preventing active shooters. In this case the shooter was undeterred and undetected by uniformed police officers until she started shooting. The best use of armed personnel is to pair them with a trained greeter / screener.  3) Think about, train for, and be prepared for unusual and unorthodox threats. In this case, the shooter appeared to utilize tactics commonly employed by terrorist groups in the middle east. She had a child with her which served to reduce suspicion and had the effect of a human shield. She was also wearing what appeared to be an explosive suicide vest which she called a “bomb” and threatened to detonate multiple times during the attack. Have a plan. Train for the plan. Train for what happens when things don’t go according to plan. #synagoguesecurity #jewishcommunity #jewishcommunalsafety #jewishcommunalsecurity #synagoguesafety #HOWsecurity #sscna https://lnkd.in/g89NdpeR
