On Monday, I finished a 3-day hackathon…my fourth one in three months. Why do I do this? I'm Gen X and drinking from a fire hydrant is kinda our thing. IYKYK😉 For those who don't Here are the 5️⃣ reasons why I participate in hackathons. ⭐ It's the fastest way to bring to life ideas floating around in your head. ⭐ It's the easiest way to keep up with the every changing landscape of AI. ⭐ It builds the foresight in knowing what traits are necessary to build a great team. ⭐ It keeps your leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills sharp. ⭐ It's a great way to expand your network of technical resources for future projects. Learning by doing is the continuous evolution of growth. Find ways to stretch yourself today. You are your only competition.

Tuesday Thought! Ah, the joy of growing older! 🌱 As the days and months zip by, so do our responsibilities. From intern days to mid-level hustles, and now, here I am, leading a lively pack of 10 amazing Gen Z dynamos! 🚀 And guess what? My new "grown-up" dilemma: Do I grant them a holiday on the 16th of August, or wait for the inevitable flood of "sick leaves"? I gave into the peer pressure & goddamn it's been the best thing! Not the peer pressure of partying or clubbing but for learning. I am a mild to mid level curious person i.e. I can convert to really curious person if triggered. I have realized we often tend to overlook friends who push us to learn. I met Sejal Rekhan in my fellowship program & since then every time we interact we discover/learn something new. It is so much easier when you learn with friends and it is crazy how two brains learning together can come up with amazing ideas. Sign to reconnect with your friend who pushes you to learn. I just mentored at my first ever hackathon! I was both excited and curious as to how the experience would be. Spoiler alert: It was awesome. Here are my key takeaways: 1. Resilience beats skill. Skill beats knowledge. If you can find the right balance between the three, you become an unstoppable force of nature! 2. Mentees need help with people skills working in collaborative environment. Most of the issues that arose among the teams were mainly people related. The techincal issues were much easier to solve. Knowledge is available on the internet but people skills need to be honed through practice. 3. This experience goes to show “team work makes the dream work”. The most knowledgeable person in the room can’t do 50% of what a group of “lesser” knowledgeable individuals achieve working collaboratively. Once again, a huge shout out to Bellevue College ACM for hosting this amazing event and allowing me to experience it as a mentor!

Participating in a hackathon was a rewarding experience for me and can be beneficial for you as well.Here are some benefits: Skill Development: You learn new technologies, programming languages, and problem-solving techniques. Networking: It’s a great opportunity to meet like-minded individuals, mentors, and industry professionals. Teamwork: Collaborating with others enhances your communication and teamwork skills. 🌟 Hey everyone! 🌟 Glad to present my first post! I’m super pumped to share that I had the coolest experience leading my team at my college hackathon! 🎉 We whipped up an awesome project called “Wallet Buddy,” which is all about making personal finance way easier for students and young professionals. You know how tricky it can be to keep track of money? Well, our platform helps users track expenses, set budgets, and even gives personalized tips on saving cash! But to stand out from the mainstream competition, we integrated a learning management system with it. 💰📊 As the team leader, I got to work with some seriously talented folks. The hackathon was a total whirlwind of ideas, coding, and, let’s be real, several sleepless nights! We faced some wild challenges, like debugging our code and trying to make our site look pretty, but we totally had each other’s backs. I’m so proud of how we all pushed each other to think creatively and keep the good vibes going! 🤝 Big shoutout to the awesome mentors who judged our projects and dropped some epic feedback. They really helped us step up our game and think bigger! And guess what? We even snagged an appreciation certificate for our hard work! 🏆 Leading this crew not only leveled up my tech skills but also showed me how important teamwork and creativity are in tackling problems. Huge thanks to everyone who organized the event and all the participants who brought their A-game! On Monday, join our hybrid in person/Zoom talk with Kate Tyshchenko, from Paul English's team, to discuss Minimum Viable Products! A Minimum Viable Product (MVP) is the simplest version of a product that can be released to test an idea with users. Kate will discuss key strategies and practical tools (including AI tools) that can be used to speed up the process of creating a MVP to gather early user feedback and reduce risk. On Tuesday, join our hybrid in person/Zoom talk with Michael Burke, also from Paul English's team, where he will discuss selecting the right problem for a Hackathon. Michael will discuss how to identify high-impact problems that can help both newcomers and veterans alike to focus on what matters to succeed! On Wednesday, join our hybrid in person/Zoom collaborative event with Kurt Klopmeier from ACES (Career Services)! Kurt will go over what proper steps to take to make an effective resume and cover letter, but also how we can incorporate AI as a learning tool to assist in this process!
