It was an honor to serve RaiseUp Families as their Executive Director for nearly 4 years. In that time, the organization experienced unprecedented growth: ✅ Expanded Board of Directors by 50% ✅ Doubled the number of families (clients) being served ✅ Client outcomes improved by 100% (average income increase in signature 9-month HandUp program went from 35% - 71%) ✅ Client graduation rate improved from 80% to 91% ✅ Revenue growth from $450,000 to $1,000,015 (donations from private sources) These outcomes are a result of the Board of Directors and staff working together towards a common goal, each person utilizing their unique skills and abilities in their individual role to help the bus arrive at its desired destination. They are the result of hours and hours of innovation, hard work, and determination. As RaiseUp Families celebrates its 30th Anniversary of stabilizing families from vulnerable communities who face unexpected financial crises so their children can focus on their education, giving them the opportunity for a better life, it needs a full-time leader with passion, vision, and experience to lead it forward. I could not be happier that Kate Yadan will pick up this torch and lead RaiseUp into the future! "We know that change is a natural part of life, and those who embrace it grow while those who do not slowly die, metaphorically. Two of the largest obstacles to change are ego and pride. Moving out of our own way is the toughest battle most of us will face. Giving up our seat for someone else, stepping down when it's time for someone else to step up, and gracefully exiting when we have added all the value we can, are what we should all strive for." -Angela Burgess, Are You on the Right Bus?
We are THRILLED to annouce a big change at RaiseUp Families! After a rigorous search, Kate Yadan was named our newest Executive Director as of March 1, 2024! Kate's knowledge and experience are unparalleled, and more importantly, her passion for stabilizing families from vulnerable communities so their children have the opportunity for a brighter future knows no bounds. We are incredibly grateful to Angela Burgess for sharing her vision and leadership with our clients, our staff, our board of directors, and our community over the last four years and wish her well in her future endeavors! Come out and welcome Kate at our 2024 RaiseUp Families Graduation Celebration! Sponsorships and Tickets are on sale now: https://lnkd.in/g3pn6Bjk

Driving business with creativity. | Brand Consultant, Agency Creative, Founder | Represented by Stewart Talent
Have you ever wondered what sets truly successful people apart? I've heard everything from 4 AM rituals to mountaintop meditation retreats, but I've got a different theory. I believe it's their emotional intelligence (EQ)—their ability to understand, connect, and empathize with others. As someone who straddles the worlds of creative inspiration and business leadership daily, I've experienced firsthand how vital EQ is in helping others see your vision, whether pitching a campaign that can change a brand or pitching a business that can change the world. Recently, I've been reflecting on how cultivating EQ has played a pivotal role in my professional and personal development, enabling me to build authentic relationships, communicate effectively, and approach conflict with empathy and tact. These soft skills, now seemingly inseparable from my sense of self, are owed almost entirely to the example my parents set and their subsequent investment in my education. Sadly, most kids don't grow up with that kind of privilege. I believe that these life-changing skills shouldn't be kept behind a border, a zip code, or a paywall. Studies show that kids who are given the opportunity to succeed, more often than not, do. Imagine a world where every student has the opportunity to develop these skills early on, regardless of their background. This is the world that Prismatic wants to build. Prismatic is a Chicago-based nonprofit dedicated to equipping students with the invaluable EQ skills they need to succeed from the classroom to the boardroom—and beyond. Their mission is close to my heart, which is why I recently joined their Associate Board and am thrilled to support them in any way I can. Prismatic’s upcoming fundraising event, an indoor mini golf extravaganza, is more than just an event—it's a chance to invest in the future of our students and, by extension, our communities. It’s also a chance to test whether or not people with high EQ index higher on mini golf performance. Guess we’ll see. I would love to see you there, not just as attendees, but as supporters of a movement that values emotional growth and its transformative power. Your presence would mean the world to me and to the countless students who will benefit from your support. Sign up to attend Prismatic’s Big Mini Summer Fundraiser here: https://lnkd.in/gkc5WNtu Check out more about Prismatic and how we're making a difference at https://lnkd.in/gXutzJRg. #EQ #education #nonprofit #fundraiser

Erin Thibodeaux-Davison is the President & CEO at Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southwest Louisiana, an organization that is marking 45 years of offering critical youth mentoring programs in Louisiana. We talk about resiliency, and what it means to lead an organization through FOUR federally named disasters within a year (not to mention a pandemic). We discuss: * Valuable lessons for nonprofit leaders about surviving – and even thriving – in the midst of mother nature’s chaos (and coming out even stronger on the other side). * The need for volunteer mentors. * BBBS of SWLA’s Big Defender Fund https://lnkd.in/evBgBAXS

In addition to running my own PR consulting firm, I have also been the GM of a non-profit travel baseball program - created in NYC six years ago to provide opportunities for all kids - regardless of economic status. Every year, the East River Sharks baseball program provides scholarships to kids from various parts of NYC who can't afford the cost of joining a travel baseball team. Many of our coaches are volunteers, and we rely on donations to keep the organization running and the kids on the field! Currently 70% of our players are on scholarship! This week, for 4 days only, we are raising money for our non-profit baseball program the East River Sharks! It is weird to post this on LI, but it is part of my world of work, and part of giving back. If you are corporation, we would love your sponsorship if you are looking for a worthy cause. Or if you just want some popcorn and want to send a quick donation (by the way the popcorn is awesome), then click the link below! We are using the funds to create two new younger teams as many of our players are now in high school and college. Need more convincing about how you can help... consider this... 2 of our players have gone to the show (SF Giants and AZ Diamondbacks) 30 of our players over the last 6 years are now playing in college. And, there are more players out there to help! #nonprofits #nonprofit #baseball #youthempowerment #youthsports https://lnkd.in/eBb6gphK

Over the weekend, I was able to celebrate the work of the Indiana University Dance Marathon in 2023 ahead of Indiana’s clash against Penn State at Simon Skojdt Assembly Hall. While I have been transitioning out of my post as the Director of Corporate Relations over the past few months, I wanted to reflect on some of the lessons I learned from my tenure. 1. Relationships Matter - Establishing and nurturing robust connections is essential for effective leadership, especially when working collaboratively with a diverse set of individuals. In my role, this involved 22 other student leaders on the executive council, 7 chairpersons and 60+ committee members on my committee, and a portfolio of numerous businesses from across the nation. Fostering positive relationships with each of these groups is crucial, as it plays a vital role in achieving our common goal of contributing to lifesaving efforts for kids in need at Riley Hospital for Children. The utilization of authentic connections served as a pivotal factor in attaining shared objectives between stakeholders. 2. Be Decisive - Being decisive entails not only making informed and timely choices but also acting proactively based on data. Striking a balance between gathering sufficient information and avoiding prolonged decision-making processes is essential for progress. A decisive leader showcases confidence and clarity in their choices, fostering momentum and direction for the team. This approach not only instills a sense of purpose but also encourages proactive decision-making among team members. 3. Keep The Faith - Maintaining a positive and optimistic mindset, especially during challenging times, is crucial for leadership. Believing in the mission and vision of your organization can inspire others and help overcome obstacles. Acknowledging the highest of highs and the lowest of lows over the course of my tenure on the executive council added depth to this perspective. It was a year filled with both triumphs and tribulations. The journey, however, became meaningful through the unwavering support of my colleagues. Standing by each other during tough times and celebrating victories together forged a strong sense of camaraderie. While the frustrations of unproductive efforts were present, this collective perseverance made every endeavor worthwhile. In the end, the elation of celebrating the accomplishment of raising over $3 million for lifesaving healthcare with my best friends eclipsed everything, making the entire experience incredibly fulfilling. My time in IUDM was truly the best thing that has ever happened to me. It made me a better marketer, better leader, and most importantly, a better man. I will always look fondly at my time in the organization and I am incredibly grateful to FORVIS, Allied Solutions LLC, Solution Tree, Graduate Hotels, Mom Water, HospitalRecruiting, Papa Johns, and countless other partners for their generous support over the years. Go Hoosiers and FTK!
Before the tip-off at today's Indiana University Bloomington men’s basketball game, I had the honor of participating in the Indiana University Dance Marathon check presentation to Riley Children's Health. Together, we celebrated the incredible achievement of our IUDM students, who raised just over $3 million for the kids at Riley during last year's event while also reflecting on the remarkable 30+ year journey of IUDM, contributing over $50 million to make a difference in the lives of those who need it most.

Revenue-generating Nonprofits in the news NCAA’s Historic Settlement: The NCAA, a nonprofit with nearly $1 billion in revenue, recently settled to pay college athletes $2.7 billion. This raises questions about whether the organization still aligns with its original nonprofit mission of fostering amateur sports. PGA Tour and Saudi Investment: The PGA Tour, another nonprofit, announced a merger with the Saudi Public Investment Fund’s LiveGolf. This billion-dollar deal casts doubt on whether taxpayer dollars should support such ventures. OpenAI’s Nonprofit Status: OpenAI, which started as a nonprofit, now controls a highly profitable LLC valued at $80 billion. This shift has led to legal scrutiny and questions about whether it still adheres to its nonprofit mission. https://lnkd.in/emR7V5uX
