There is still time left to donate! Thanks to Crowdfund Lambeth, 50% of our target will be matched. We still need to raise £1,300 from at least 10 different supporters to hit our target. Homelessness has been on the rise for years, with various charities advocating to make changes to the systems that are meant to help them. However, amongst these conversations, it is thought that youth homelessness is often forgotten as being a large part of the general statistics. Recent research from Centrepoint has shown that the number of young people who are either homeless or soon to be has risen from previous years, equating to around 372 people contacting the council for help each day. This is why over 100 charities are calling on the government to implement a national strategy to fight youth homelessness. This strategy comprises three main areas of action; prevention, finances, and housing. It also lays out evidence-based solutions that the government can adopt to tackle the crisis. https://buff.ly/4bcZHuv #youthhomelessness #generalelection #homelessness #centrepoint #housing

Good to see a strong rebuttal to those attempting to prevent the Prince of Wales from supporting homelessness charities and projects. This echoes a recurring theme of a month of charity and philanthropy sector conferences (about which I’ll probably write something longer, soon). Charities and their beneficiaries are desperate for funds and other support. Let’s not get in the way of funders and philanthropists providing the urgent support needed. I’m a fan of systems change, shifting power and many of the other initiatives that encourage an inclusive, grounded and thoughtful charity sector. But let’s not push people away (that’s not inclusive), make assumptions about other people’s privilege (that’s not grounded) or take positions based on our own prejudices (that’s not thoughtful).

We are one of 140 charities campaigning for a cross-government strategy to end youth homelessness. Read more here: https://lnkd.in/eNS8HAr6 Our Chief Exec Tracy Gollins, said: “Our Sheffield-based homeless hostel houses young women and their children from the age of 16 up to 25. We offer a secure, safe and supportive home for young people who don't have the wrap-around support of family and friends. But services like ours are few and far between. The provision for young people in cities and towns across the UK does not match the demand, and it is absolutely vital that the incoming government recognises this failure and prioritises youth homelessness with a workable and funded strategy. These young people are our future, and we can’t keep letting them down." #planforthe136k #endyouthhomelessness #signforthe136k #HomelessSupport #homelessnessprevention #SouthYorkshireCharity #domesticabusesupport #empoweringwomen #womensempowerment #womensvoices #womensstories #southyourkshire #womensadvocacy #bestkeptsecret #communityaction #communityimpact

As we get back into the swing of things after the festive period, government figures show that the number of people experiencing homelessness has risen significantly since 2022. It’s estimated that almost an additional 40,000 people spent Christmas without a home in 2023 - a 14% increase from 2022. Shelter has described the homelessness crisis as being out of control, and we agree. Can you help us to make a difference? #support #charity #homelessnesscrisis

Anyone can become homeless – and it can happen to anyone, for any number of reasons. Just as homelessness is not caused by one thing – there is not a single solution that will fix all of the issues that have led to people being homeless in Reading. Also, there are many types of homelessness – not just the rough sleeping that you see in Reading town centre - sofa surfing, staying in emergency accommodation such as B&Bs or living in squats. Seek help as soon as you can. Here we dispel some common myths about homelessness, and provide information about what to do when someone is rough sleeping or begging. https://lnkd.in/eJWX_bNv #homeless #support #WeCanHelp #DropIn #charity #RdgUK

So important that this is addressed

What do the following NGO's have in common? I wonder how much money is spent on activities and messaging to promote conversion to that particular religion. I know, I know, people aren't forced to take part but can we at least admit that there is coercion? The amount of times I have been forced by need to listen to messaging I firmly believe is harmful is astounding. From Article... Of the $274 million the city spent on homelessness in the 2021-24 period, almost half went to one provider, the Salvation Army. The venerable institution invoiced the city for $12.7 million in contracts in 2023 that generated just 17% in permanent housing outcomes for individuals receiving services. Even that outcome was better than those posted by the Denver Rescue Mission, which was paid $8.9 million but found permanent housing success for just 3.9% of its clients exiting the programs. Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Denver, which runs three emergency shelters for women, only found permanent housing for 2.1% of its clients exiting the programs it administered despite the city paying the non-profit $8.4 million. https://lnkd.in/ghkH3mdZ

A stable homeless sector is an investment in society. But nearly £1bn is set to leave the sector in April, putting vital services at risk, and placing more people at risk. On #WorldHomelessDay we at Groundswell - Homelessness Charity UK have joined 75 other orgs in signing Homeless Link's letter to Rt Hon Rachel Reeves calling for action in the AutumnBudget. Rough sleeping rose by 27% in 2023 and 60% since 2021. If it keeps rising at the current rate, numbers in 2024 will be similar to the 2017 peak. Meanwhile over 150,000 children are currently trapped living in temporary accommodation, often in very poor conditions. Behind these statistics are people, let down by systems that should protect them, the insecurity and trauma of homelessness holding them back from achieving their potential. The full letter is here: https://lnkd.in/e9URWwX4
