In keeping with our stand’s theme of ‘under the sea’ and our One Planet Sustainability Strategy, we were proud to support a session at the Cheltenham Science Festival yesterday focused on protecting our oceans. Scientist Helen Czerski and science journalist Olive Heffernan explored how changing societies and evolving technologies shape the future of Earth’s last uninhabited regions and offered an insight into what we can all do to protect them during their ‘Oceans: Protecting Our Earth's Last Wilderness’ session. With another three days to go, there’s still plenty of time to get involved with the Festival and ‘Be the Change’. Don’t forget, our friendly Spirax Group colleague volunteers will be at our stand in the Imperial Gardens in Cheltenham until the event closes on Sunday 9 June. #CheltSciFest #BeTheChange #OnePlanet #Sustainability #UnderTheSea

Forum 4 Global initiatives in harmony with nature Chair of the Forum: Prof. Alvaro Gutierrez Rojas, Universidad Privada del Valle, Bolivia. Global initiatives in harmony with nature are of paramount importance as they recognize the interconnectedness of human well-being with the health of the planet. In the face of pressing environmental challenges, such as climate change, biodiversity loss, and ecosystem degradation, collaborative international efforts are essential. Initiatives that prioritize harmony with nature promote sustainable practices, conservation of natural resources, and the protection of biodiversity. By fostering a global mindset of stewardship, these initiatives encourage responsible consumption, the adoption of eco-friendly technologies, and the restoration of ecosystems. Embracing a harmonious relationship with nature not only safeguards the delicate balance of ecosystems but also contributes to the resilience of communities worldwide. Such initiatives recognize that the well-being of humanity is intricately linked to the health of the planet, emphasizing the need for collective action to ensure a sustainable and thriving future for both people and the natural world. https://lnkd.in/ghwx7TQ7

Bioanarchy: The theme for this year’s Symbiocene reminds us that nature already knows about disruption - what can we learn? Our entanglement with volatile and shifting systems offers a chance to recognize our own abundance, rooted in a more-than-human world. We’ll need to learn from and recognize the intricacies of our relationships to reimagine futures for collective liberation . How do we root into chaos and elevate the disorderly? How does falling apart present a chance to come together in new and better ways? Moderated by Damien Gayle, Environmental Correspondent at The Guardian Featuring Kalpana Arias from Nowadays On Earth, Sophie Dembinski Head of Global Policy at Ecosia, Will Eliot from Biocrafting Studio, Professor David Luke, Technologists & Futurist Viraj Joshi, and Grace Boyle Tickets are available at the link below 🎟️ https://lnkd.in/g4RviwTA.. #sustainability #sustainable #climatejustice #londonclimateactionweek

📣New report launch: A new report by the Future Earth community launched this month in Finland emphasizes the necessity of transdisciplinarity, a systems approach, and institutional transformation in research to tackle climate change and biodiversity loss. It identifies key research gaps and highlights that collaboration among researchers across disciplines is critical to create change. The report was commissioned by the European Commission, and is intended to inform the European Union’s Horizon Europe funding program. It’s based on inputs from over 120 scientific experts of the course of a year. We thank the researchers for their contributions and invaluable support from International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA) and Sustainability in the Digital Age & Future Earth Canada. In honor of international day for biodiversity, I celebrate my "why": 🌿Why I took the leap to become an environmental scientist. 🌿Why I love working with technology to find creative, yet informative ways of representing ecosystems. 🌿Why I believe leaning towards a solution-based approach is a way to bridge cognitive dissonance and encourage action. 🌿Why I believe these solutions often lie jot in the middle of the inconvenients truths. 🌿Why I promote using a systems thinking approach for strategy design and addressing uncertainty. 🌿Why I advocate for fair and just collaboration in transitions. My why is deeply rooted in being a better human, showing kindness and selflessness. But most importantly, it is strongly coupled to protecting the biological vastness we freely benefit from and to imprint its value. This is the legacy I wish to leave for coming generations. Let's celebrate all creatures great and small 🍃🐞 #biodiversity #systemsthinking #sustainabilitytransitions #biodiversityday
