The best advice to give to someone job searching? It only takes one. You could apply to 100s of openings. Drown in silence and rejection for weeks, even months. But all it takes is one job offer. At nextOPP Search, we donate career coaching services to survivors of domestic violence through our Hire One = Help One program. Through this work we’ve realized how important it is to point this out. So don’t give up. Today could be the day you find the lead that turns into your ‘one’.

YR13| Aspiring human rights lawyer| Sutton Trust Online| Aspiring Solicitors Member| Receptionist at Everyone Active| Studying English Literature, Politics & Sociology
Hi Network! 😊 I just completed Latham & Watkin’s Pro Bono Job Simulation on Forage This Virtual Job Simulation enabled me to focus on the understanding of Pro Bono work at Latham & Watkins and gain an insight to what exactly is Pro Bono and what can be involved within it. Pro Bono Derives from the Latin meaning “for public good” furthermore I did two things: 📝Researched and prepared advice on company incorporation and found benefits to keep a charity registered as a company rather than an incorporation association. 📝Prepared a memorandum on 4 nonprofit legal structures. Skills I took onboard while doing this were logical reasoning, issue spotting as well as presenting legal analysis.

It’s another week which means it’s time for another summer internship update as part of my fellowship with Equal Justice America. ☑📃 My summer internship at Legal Aid Chicago’s Housing Practice Group continues to be an enlightening and efficient learning experience. Since my last update, I have completed a Motion to Dismiss to be filed, as well as a Motion to Compel Discovery and a Motion to Continue Trial. This gave me insight into the intricate steps of a case before it reaches trial. These past two weeks, however, I have also been working on researching various housing subsidies, organizing client files, and investigating client evidence. Investigating client evidence has been incredibly interesting because it gives me the chance to analyze potential defenses and further inquire into aspects of a case. This experience has broadened my knowledge of the court system and has improved my skills in legal writing, client counseling, research and advocacy. Equal Justice America Fellows are providing updates on our legal work this summer as a reminder that we wouldn’t be able to accomplish what we are without the fantastic contributions of Equal Justice America, and to spread awareness about the work to close the access-to-justice gap. We aim to inspire supporters to further contribute to the cause. If you wish to donate, you can do so at my fundraising page here: https://lnkd.in/g2rvT2CF DePaul University College of Law #EJAFellowUpdate 🏘😊

The Ethical Interview Process Instead of asking people for their story, ask about their interactions with the nonprofit. Instead of hearing their history — what are the circumstances that brought them to us — I ask these questions: How did you hear about us? What do we provide that others don’t? What would you tell a funder who is hesitant to get involved? How has your interaction with us been? Anything else you’d like to say that I didn’t ask? Everyone has an opinion. So let folks give it. Getting their perspective on the organization, rather than asking for personal details is easier to share. And helps empower clients to pay it forward.

What is the role of the Red Cross? do you know the answer Does he do that? No! Any normal person understands that an organization that doesn't do its job when the world needs it is a failure. We do not agree to this crime. That charge is pending as long as they don't take care of the hostages. . The job is to protect human rights, and that doesn't happen because of wrong decision-making. The Red Cross has no rights to resign from its position when it is required. Financial donations and support cannot reach those who are not up to the task. 🙏 You are invited to do it also or together with us as part of the already accelerating ever growing #do_your_job project. Feel free to download this graphics and write your own posts to pressure Red Cross to do the right thing, using our hashtag #do_your_job P.s. we are building an international “likes 👍 supporters” for the purpose of gathering & applying influence for the posts of this project. It’s open only for those who want to help: https://lnkd.in/e7PjZuCr

Currently seeking a programmatic, research, or public health role. MPH with program evaluation experience. Completed internship & fellowship with the CDC. Trauma-informed. Group facilitator, trainer. Nurse Practitioner.
Among the many benefits of volunteering in our communities: - Working together with other community members. During each encounter, a group of strangers gathers and is led by permanent staff to accomplish something. The group of strangers delegates tasks among themselves (sometimes without even speaking). We learn who is good at detailed and meticulous work, who surveys the area and fills in gaps, and who prefers to do more of the heavy lifting. Strangers become a team in figuring out how to most efficiently and effectively divide a large amount of labor among them. - Learning a new skill. I work in healthcare. Yesterday, I learned to put together beds. Previously, I've learned to gut and rehabilitate houses. - Learning about a new sector of society. I work in healthcare. Through volunteering, this year alone, I've been involved in food distribution, housing individuals and families who are unsheltered, an international gathering of tribes, a human rights vigil, and providing food to individuals and families impacted by domestic violence. - Fulfilling a need. Often volunteers are able to quickly accomplish meticulous and repetitive work that takes permanent staff away from more important work. - Get us outside of ourselves. There have been times when I've been too stuck in my head and sorting through donated produce at the food bank or talking to the retired person next to me while screwing bolts to a bed post helped me zoom out to see that I am part of something greater than myself. There is a privilege to volunteering. It takes time and it's unpaid labor. A retired woman told me yesterday how much she loves volunteering. "I don't have money. But I have time." In Albuquerque, many of the people I volunteer with are in high school or are retired. This means I get to learn about the lives of people who've lived a lot of life, and to also learn about what it's like to be a young person today. The City of Albuquerque makes volunteering easy through their website OneABQ. https://lnkd.in/gvR97SUN At a time when our communities feel polarized, when many people feel lonely and isolated, coming together to build something or accomplish a task in service to our communities can help bridge gaps and create a sense of common purpose over shared values.

Securing employment can be a challenging journey. A "yes" from a prospective employer can often be elusive, leading to frustration and disheartenment as you wonder how to utilize the vast amount of time on your hands. This week, we are exploring the value of volunteering, especially when you are waiting for your first employment opportunity or are in between jobs. We spoke to three CEOs who volunteered their time while waiting for a job opportunity. Who better to start with than our CEO and the founder of Liyema Consulting Group, sharing the lessons she learned when she volunteered after being retrenched and figuring out her next steps? #EmploymentJourney #Volunteering #ProfessionalDevelopment #LeadershipLessons #Inspiration
